Awkward Reccomendation??

Hi Guys,

Im hopefully (if everything clicks and the time is right) going to be doing 3 (so far) work experiences this summer; a 2 week gig at a large mideast company's finance department, travel, then an almost 3 week gig at J.P. Morgan (a southeast asia office) and a 4-5 week gig at Credit Suisse(institutional clients)/EFG Hermes/HSBC-SABB Summer Training Program/other major bank, not sure yet.

Seeing that Im going to spend about 3 weeks at J.P. Morgan (I want to apply directly to undergrad biz schools where applicable, like NYU-Stern or UPenn-Wharton), would it be okay if I asked my supervisor for a letter of reccomendation...or would it be too short of a stay to sensibly ask for a letter of reccomendation??

Oh, Im also looking for suggestions; if you can spend 4-5 weeks at the following places:

-HSBC-SABB (Saudi British Bank) Summer Training Program
-EFG Hermes (boutique Investment Banking, Wealth Management)
-Credit Suisse (Institutional clients)
-the largest bank in the middle east.

Thanks!

yeah, you can ask, I think it will help for the ugrad bschools

adds up to about 650 hours, most likely more. I want MOAR!

It will definately help… so it isnt awkward?

i dont see why it would be

I wouldnt know, first time doing an internship

I know this is a bit off topic but how did you land an internship at those places? I just don’t get how hs seniors get spots like that.

I agree with you Konig, that it might be awkward asking for a recommendation after only 3 weeks. For the 5 week internship, maybe. Be very polite and ask your supervisor if he/she generally offers recs to interns of that time length. If you impress someone with a great work ethic, brains, and good attitude, I imagine they would be happy to do it.

@csokane: HSBC-SABB has a summer training program, the rest is family friendships… no, I wont get paid so Im not moleing for money at big places. Not getting paid at any of those ^

@Fauve: Thanks

Honestly? Thee colleges will just wonder what relative got you the ‘internships’. Another affluent kid Daddy wants to make a banker. They would bbe more impressed by a whole summer at McDonalds making money to help your family.

HOPEFULLY he’s doing this, though, for the experience itself and NOT for the college. -Coughs-
But, working in McDonald’s for a summer would definitely be a great experience for an wealthy child; it shows you a side of life you might never experience.

@Redroses: So I’m at a disadvantage for being wellconnected and financially comfortable (thank you god) ? Thats BS/

@Francaisalamatt: So youre telling me that its better to work say, at my family’s factory (on the production floor, not the office), than at the bank?

The training program is open to the public, any1 can apply, the other bank positions need a “push”.
