Hi, I just submitted my application for the AXA achievement scholarship and I was wondering what are my chances. I have a 3.17 GPA and 23 Act score. I am an Eagle Scout and talked about my Eagle Scout project and all of the different merit badges I earned. I am also a member of cross country, track, and teen Court. I am working part-time as a sales Associate at Books A Million. Any chance?
I could not tell you exactly what your chances are, as the AXA Acheivement program only provides descriptions for 10 or so of their winners. If you look at these winners, you can see that they have done extraordinary things (started large charities, research, etc.). However, it does not describe the other 40 winners, so there is no telling in what they have done.
Did you get chosen as a finalist?
@simpledimple Yes, I made it to the state level. I will know on February 27th if I advance any further.
I applied for that one too and made it to state level- looking at past winners I am doubtful I have a shot but I have a 3.57 GPA, 32 on the ACT, started a club for equality for women in my school and am president, VP of SADD and VP of Science Olympiads and have over 1,000 in community service hours since 9th grade. I’ve gotten 2 Presidential Gold service awards but I am not very confident that I have enough to get that scholarship.
@sdsupride If you don’t mind me asking, how do you know February 27th is the date of notification?
@ticktacktoe I think my email said we will know if we proceed on to the competitive round after the state level
@sdsupride Hm interesting, my email notified that I was a finalist (no mention of anything state related), and that I would receive notification of any awards granted mid-March by US mail. Did you apply to the AXA Achievement Scholarship or the AXA Achievement Community Award?
@ticktacktoe Axa Achievement Scholarship. It says February 27th at the very bottom of the email.
@sdsupride Could you please copy and paste the email that you received?
@sdsupride - are you sure that is not the Elks scholarship you are talking about- because that one they tell you on Feb 27th and state winners move on to competitive round.
@Born2ryde Yes, I am sorry. I just figured that meant we found out if we were awarded. Sorry for any confusion. Good luck!!! Let’s hope we all make it to the competitive level.
@Born2ryde Credits to you! My application will be nothing compared to all you’ve done. You should be proud and confident in yourself!
My daughter is a finalist. Does anybody know how much is the award? is it just one year or 4 year scholarship. How many many will be awarded?
The AXA Achievement scholarship caps off at 10,000 applicants. 52 total students will receive awards, 42 of these will be $10,000 awards, the other 10 will be $25,000. One student is chosen per state. I believe it is for one year only, but I have not looked far into that.
Congratulations for your daughter!!
@simpledimple thanks!!! Hope she wins!!! Fingers crossed
@simpledimple Also 480 people recieve $1000 renewable scholarships for 4 years.
@sdsupride I did not know that! Thank you for posting that! I did, however, look up the point you just made and I found this quote in my research.
“The branch offices will also choose 300 remaining students to receive a scholarship worth $2,500. The scholarship contest is run by Scholarship America”
Good luck to everyone!!! I think we find out if we make it to the competitive level tomorrow
@sdsupride I thought they won’t announce it till spring. Best of luck
They will announce it we advance to the competitive level tomorrow
