I was just wondering how legitimate the Ayn Rand Essay Contest is, and how good it'll look on a college application if I do win. Now, I'm getting way ahead of myself: I highly doubt that I'll win. In fact, I'll be entering either way, for it's decent practice in essay-writing and the scholarship is amazing. Nonetheless, I still wanted to ask.

The real question here is, do you want to be associated with Ayn Rand?

It is definitely legitimate. You should know there are some home and private schools that spend whole classes preparing an essay for this contest. So it is very competitive. You get a free book from the Ayn Rand Institute just for entering.

^^ +1

iluvbooks94: is it bad to be associated with Ayn Rand?
Moreover: awesome, thanks.
HarryJones: …?

hey lerizse:
If you win something be sure to apply to Columbia, Stanford, Boston College, and any extremely left wing, or any jesuit college.

Actually, its something i plan to do next year.

Ayn Rand is not left-wing… And neither are Jesuit schools… Not sure why that would be suggested.

Honestly Anchser do you not understand why it would be awesome to apply to a left wing or Jesuit school and have on your transcript an award from the Ayn Rand institute?

Are you joking? I can’t tell. If you are, then I feel pretty dumb for not catching on.

I was.
Why would i tell lerizse that

well, at least misunderstood sarcasm is a lot funnier than just plain sacrasm.

Yeah, Ayn Rand’s work is a bit controversial, to say the least. She’s a bit of a Social Darwinist, from what I gather anyway.
Something to keep in mind.
