Significance of Fountainhead Contest

I just received the results from the Ayn Rand Fountainhead contest. I was a finalist. Does the finalist level of recognition look significant to top colleges? The email said there were over 5,000 entries.

Definitely. That was a heavily emphasized contest (I entered!) and definitely showcase it. =]

bump .

This is definitely a noteworthy accomplishment. Last year I won third place for the Ayn Rand "Anthem" essay contest out of 14,000 entries. It is still my best award. You wrote a better essay than around over 4,900 applicants! That is nothing to hide. Congrats!!!

I think you will get a letter in the mail, as I did, indicating what a great accomplishment it is.

Congrats on not only the great achievement but also being a proponent of Objectivism! (I'm assuming you are b/c that's what Ayn Rand was all about.) I agree with most of the ideals and it's nice to see someone similiar.

Thanks for your congratulations. I wouldn't call myself an Objectivist, but I sympathize heavily with Rand's views and admire her writing.

It's a national contest, so reaching finalist status is a very good achievement. Congratulations mym.

so if i haven't gotten anything as of now, i didn't win? i thought they notified everyone at the same time... =/

mym, did you get notified through email, phone, or letter?

I got an email, and they said they were going to send a letter. I thought all participants were supposed to be notified too.

Oh...when I looked at the title I was like, "fountainhead contest"? I was thinking more of, like an H2O immersion contest to see who can drink the most water.

From reading some of the first replies, I was seriously like, '***'?

But anyhow it seems like it's something good so congratulations.

Regarding Post#1,
WOW. great achievement from a writing perspective. There are
implications of identyfying with Rand though that has interesting
connotations to colleges that seek collaboration amongst diverse
intellects at varying levels of sophistication.

Rand attracts a sharply divided audience, those very aligned with the
viewpoints and those that are not.

You might want to emphasize the writing achievement more so than your
philosophical bent in a college app that is sure to be read by either
audience?
