B B &B

Does anyone have experience using the Pack 'n Hold service through Bed, Bath & Beyond in Ithaca? I'm imagining it to be a very busy crazy house during move-in time at the dorms and wondering if buying bedding, pillows, etc. in our hometown and having them shipped to the dorm would be easier and worth extra cost. We are flying out from the west and only have a day to hang out in Ithaca before DD moves in and we leave. Also imagining the town will be super crowded, but would like to see some sites rather than spending hours in line at a store. Anyone have advice on B B & B versus shipping from home using the Big Red Shipping Service? (I did call the Ithaca BB &B and they told me it is a very hectic and busy time for them.)

Also, how crowded is Ithaca the day before move-in?
Thanks in advance.

We ordered everything for our kid in a NYC store and picked up in Ithaca. We’ve made few BB&B runs during move in to exchange things. They were busy, buy never crazy. We’ve never stood in line for long period of time.
Ithaca will be busy the day before move in because of so many freshman parents, but the campus will only be 1/4 full because most upperclass men won’t show up until later. I assume you have hotel reservation all set.
There are a lot of good restaurants in town, try Maxie’s and Ale House (great Kobe burger). They don’t take reservations, so try to get there early.

Thank you very much, oldfort!! Got the hotel res back in January. And it wasn’t easy even back then. Any other tips on what to see or do the day before move-in is greatly appreciated. We saw some falls, don’t remember which ones, last summer as we breezed through.

One tip on move in, label everything with your kid’s name and dorm room #. When you get there, there will be a lot of volunteer students to help you move everything into your kid’s room. To make sure your things don’t get lost, label everything.
I would strongly suggest for you to attend the convocation. It is at the stadium and it is for all new students and families. We always enjoyed President Skorton’s speech.

Thanks so much for the tips, oldfort! We are staying till Saturday, so we should be able to attend the convocation.
