B in AP Lit or A in Standard English?

whats better?
im in my senior year, and i don't like AP Lit all too much so whats better in terms of admissions, im trying to decide if i really want to drop it.

That’s what a top school (Stanford) says. You’re not going to fool the adcoms; they know whats offered and what other kids have been taking.

how should i interpret that if Im taking Ap Calc, Ap Physics, and AP Psych as well?

You don’t need to take each and every AP. Admissions officers do put a very high value on taking a rigorous course load, but if you are taking 3 APs in one year and doing very well (getting As), As in non-AP courses should be fine. If you applying to an ivy/elite school, realize that lots of applicants are taking a full load of APs so there is some disadvantage there.

Also, your application is more than courseload/GPA (although this might be the most important element for most schools). You have to have good SAT/ACT, recommendations, essays and ECs too. This goes double for ivy/elite schools.

You should drop that ****. My friend already has too much of an overload from JUST AP LIT. Think about other classes he’s taking: AP Calc BC and AP environmental science. He says he has no time for SAT/College apps. If you’ve taken most of the courses available, then why bother to take 1 more that might save you some time if you didn’t?

^Then your friend isn’t prepared for a top university. His time management skills would have to be abysmal to make such a statement, unless he is working full-time to support his family, in which case I would understand.

I have 6 APs this year (senior) and it’s not that bad considering you can manage your time. Actually, roughly 15 students in my class of 450 have 6-7 APs, 30 students have about 4-5 APs, and 30 students have 2-3 APs. Also, I attend a very competitive public school that doesn’t have grade inflation (doesn’t have grade deflation either, it’s pretty fair).

In my eyes, the OP should take AP Lit. There are too many examples of students like me and my peers, from just ONE school in the country, that are taking a massive amount of AP classes. The OP will be at a significant disadvantage if he/she does not take the most rigorous courseload possible.

Yah take the AP Lit class and forget about the regular one. The rigor of your courseload is probably more important than anything else. Good Luck :)

For top schools, don’t, for average schools, no problem.

oh no I didnt take AP US, AP Composition, and I took Calc AB instead of BC in past years. How bad is this?
