anyone know when those invited will be notified?

Should be very soon, end of this week or possibly next week.

I just got my invitation today. My interview is March 12. I think UMD just became my top choice by a mile.

Congratulations! The B/K scholarship is an awesome opportunity!

misralz, would you mind posting your stats? Thanks, just curious.

I'm instate with a 1500(M+V) SAT and a 3.9 GPA. My extracurricular activities are mostly sports and volunteer work.

Thanks, and congratulations! I hope I'm on the receiving end of a nomination. I have similar stats: ~3.9/4.65 GPA, 2260 SAT, 33 ACT.

maryland doesn't look at sat writing

I got a letter too - but I'm confused. Last year's thread for this topic mentions that all semifinalists at least get 8k / year, but the letter is a little confusing on this subject. It says that "other students" get this partial award, but it doesn't specify whether this group is all of the BK semifinalists, or just certain ones. Confusing.

Instate 1540 SAT 4.0 UW GPA.

The B/K has two levels: 1) the full ride; 2) $8K/year plus books. Getting the B/K invitation guarantees you at least the $8K deal. Some departments (engineering is one of them) also offer additional scholarships, but those come out later and are separate from this process.

Remember that if you in-state and qualified as a Maryland Distinguished Scholar, and you choose to attend UMD (or any other in-state school), that the MDS $3K/yr. also kicks in. MDS stacks on top of B/K up to COA. Sweet deal!

Congrats to all!

Did it come in the form of the letter?

Can only in state students get it?

I am OOS with a 36ACT and 4.0 UW GPA looking for merit money.

There are OOS students who get it, too. Invitation came in the mail today to students in MD, so give it a couple of days.

S got his invitation today for March 7th. 1550, 4.0 UW, 12 APs, #1/515 etc. etc.

It is an exceptional honor. Congrats to all!

maximus- was your son instate?

Yes! Those out of state need to be a little patient for the mail to get there. I'm convinced some of you will be invited. It says in the letter that they're offering the top 1% this honor/opportunity. That equates to 250-270 lucky recipients. Maryland is intent on attracting top students and providing them with many incentives to select UMCP. My son spent the day there last week and was impressed with the classes, students, and profs. The B/K is the icing.

B/K used to be for in-state only, but out-of-staters can (and do) get it. D (we're in NC) got the $8K version + book money. That was the deciding factor for her to become a Terp...! Good luck all. Don't stress about the B/K day....it's actually an enjoyable time, and unlike all the self-promotion that you've had to do in all your applications, this is more of a "This is Why We REALLY Want YOU to come to UMD!!!" It's also pretty cool to be in a big room with all kids with similar stats to your own. You should NOT dress like you are going to go to high school....suits not required for guys, but most were wearing them. I think D wore dress slacks and a nice blouse. The questions that they ask are related to your application.....more personal interest stuff, like one of your E/C's or anything that made your application stand-out. I think they want to just verify that live, and in person, you can form complete sentences, and can have social interaction with others. Really, you should enjoy the day....you earned the love-fest and wooing they do for you. (And it's great for us parents to sit back and burst with pride, too!!! I'd highly recommend parents to accompany your kid--there are parent-only discussions, etc. that I found valuable).

Did they ever let you know the exact time of your interview though? because it seems to only tell me the date?

also does anyone know whether the partial scholarship means $8000 per year, or $8000 for 4 years (i.e. $2000 per year)?

thanks so much!!!

The partial is $8K/year -- UMD gives out great merit $$!

If I'm in-state, should I probably assume I'm not getting a B/K invitation by this point?

any out-of-staters get invited yet?
