Ok, Im a transferring student, 24 yrs old and want to move forward with life. Except, I dont know exactly what I want to do with my life, yet I have knowledge of my general interests, talents, etc. Over the past year, I've been trying to figure out what I like, am good at, etc and I have become WAY better at it. Therefore, I have confidence in my ability to progress in this area now.

Anyways, I was thinking about majoring in business (trying to focus on the environmental aspect of it), and possibly getting some type of certificate (marketing, accounting, paramedic (im an emt), etc) after my degree. Yet, I know that there are some masters degrees (such as Arch/Engineering) which you cant really do with a business undergrad, or so I hear. I also have an interest in the environmental field too, and great spatial recognition, therefore who knows if I'll want to get into environmental design after my bachelors. Btw, I also have an interest in entrepreneurial/social business (yes I have alot of interests), but I know you dont need a bachelors to do that and some people say that a business degree can be kind of useless (yet I sat in some marketing classes and they were interesting)

Therefore, do you think:

I should just go with the bachelors in business and continue to further define what I want to do while going for my degree?

OR

Go for a trade/higher paying job while I'm further defining what I want to do, and then go to college when i have good direction?

Here are some of my strengths, values, etc:
like: being center of attention + making people laugh
interest: environment, personal development, social business + marketing, god/spirituality
prefer work that has at least some outdoors: 15-70% is ideal
Good at: spatial recognition, social skills, being understanding and patient
Important: mobility- dont want to be stuck in the same place forever
Value: Strong set of values of how to treat people, nature, life, etc, Creativity (making what you do a statement of you)

I would further explore what your interests while holding off college.

In fact, during the year or years(s) during which you hold off on college, I would make “Discovering your passions” your top life priority, even at the expense of “making money.”
The problem is that if you go into college now, you run the risk of being very unfocused and not knowing what you want to do. You are going to get so much more out of college if you know what area you want to go into (not necessarily what job, just the area) and can focus in on that area.

^I second taking up a trade or higher paying job before trying for a degree.

I joined the military and got a job when I got out, and now I’m going to school to get my degree to further my career.

The thing is that I remember when I was trying to decide military or college, that if I chose college at the time I was going to major in History or Political Science because those were the subjects I excelled in the most in HS eventhough I had no concrete plan on how to find a job with those majors/skills once I graduated. Now that I’ve waited, I have totally different interests and am more focused on what I want (and have a much more solid plan for it all). I plan to be majoring in something totally different than History, so your question made me realize how unhappy or unprepared I would have been if I did not wait.
