B-School Admission, when your not a Business Major++

So, I was on the pre-law track, but I realized that was a huge gamble and lots of $$

heres my story,

-Graduated with honors-3.6 (major was Poli Sci )
- was elected into and active in STudent Government- was Finance Chair (hopefully this helps....)
-volunteer work
Took the GRE- the school I applied to accepts that

now heres the part that I wanna know about
-I dont have any real experience....except working for my moms family business (has been in business for about 25 years)

Do you think this will help...I mean, my mom supports my family on this business and has since I was a little girl...I have been helping her with the business since I graduated. about 2 years..

When applying to business School- do you think they will only accept "consultants, engineers, analysts"....all those businessy people?? The ones who have those high positions, working for top corporations...???

Or do I have a chance?

650+ people looked at this and no one can chime in???

Ha ha that happens on CC a lot.

I think if you’re doing it full time it can definitely count as work experience. I mean is it your fault that your family owns a business ha ha.

B School is actually usually a wide mix of people. You just have to be able to explain how the degree will benefit your career. I don’t see why you wouldn’t be a good candidate for B school.

Thanks Sciencenerd, really appreciate it…if anyone else wants to add any experiences or people u may have known in my predicament please share!! dont be shy!!

roxyjo–if you haven’t worked full-time for at least a couple of years, your chances of getting into B-school are slim. The majority of B-schools (at least the top schools) want you to work before starting B-school. They want folks who’ve been out in the business world. Look at the average age of students in the first-year class for various B-schools–you’ll see that most of the students are in their late 20s. It’s rare for someone just out of undergraduate school to get accepted to B-school.
