B student looking for college

Definitely check out Bradley University in Peoria, IL. Top 30ish Engineering school. Great financial aid and your GPA and test scores fit their profile.

I’d rule out getting into Carleton for sure and probably St. Olaf too.

If you’re interested in Engineering, I would suggest Michigan Technological University. Its a state school ($24,000 tuition) and has a large engineering program as 57% of the student body are engineering majors. Acceptance would be attainable with your GPA and standardized test scores. It is ranked 117 National Universities in US news so it has a good Academic environment unlike some other schools you posted. I don’t think prestige is necessarily important but the academic rigor and studious character and overall behavior of the student body are very important for aacademic success.

Again, Michigan Tech has an OOS COA of over $36,000 per year. Previously the OP said the estimated budget was under $$25,000. Michigan Tech is a good school but if the OP is correct regarding his/her budget it is not affordable.

I understand that you he/she is on a budget but it is important to find a good academic atmosphere with a strong campus life even if he/she does have to take out loans for an out of state public schools if you don’t get accepted at Uminn-Twin Cities. Uminn-Duluth and Bemidiji State might not provide him/her with that.

South Dakota School of Engineering and Mines is within your budget and your guaranteed acceptance. Missouri Tech might be also be a good one to look at.

NMT students are also the #39 highest paid students upon graduation acording to PayScale.

It is also the #19 most desirable small school by NewsWeek ranked between prestigious Barnard and Carleton.

http://education.newsweek.com/2010/09/12/the-25-most-desirable-small-schools/school-basics.html

Even if you do not respect NewMexicoTech as greatly as I do, you must admit it is at least a notch better than every other school suggested in this thread and exceptional considering the demographic of students it admits. -.-

39 highest paid probably because they graduate a majority of tech/engineering students.
