A friend of mine finished up his sophomore year with a relatively bad cumulative GPA (2.8). He was told that colleges include community college courses combined with the high school courses to get a final GPA used for admissions, so enrolled in a few classes for the summer in the hopes of pulling his GPA up. Well, it turns out a few classes was too much for him. He already dropped one of the three classes he registered for, but still doesn't feel confident that he can get As in his remaining classes. The last day to drop is very close, and I'm trying to help him decide what, if any, classes he should drop.
Which looks less bad, a grade of B in a college class taken by a sophomore, or a withdrawal from that same class?
Any and all advice is appreciated.
Oh, also, if anyone knows how true what he was told about combining high school and college GPAs is, I'd love to know. I always thought college classes were at most a secondary consideration for admissions, but more important for credits after admitted.
