ba GPA

Bad* GPA

I was just wondering how important a GPA/class rank is when reviewed with other application info, or to what degree other factors can cancel out GPA/class rank. For instance, unweighted, i have a 2.9 and am in the 55th percentile. Weighted i have a 3.55 and am in the 40th percentile. I scored a 34 on my ACT. My extra cirriculars are pretty good, i have been involved in most all opportunites to play guitar and some playing saxophone, was in scholastic bowl and math club starting sophomore year and I started a juggling club. I can send a tape of my classical guitar that would be good according to my teacher, who teaches at Depaul and is married to a teacher at Northwestern I am in almost all accelerated and AP classes. I am also Hispanic .Supposing I write decent essays and get good teacher recommendations, what sort of colleges should i be looking at?

Wow, I had almost exactly the same situation/stats. 2.95 GPA unweighted, ~3.6 weighted, lots of APs and honors, decent ECs, 2210 SATs. That you're hispanic and play guitar probably puts you in a better situation than me, but of my "reach" schools i got accepted to Occidental College and George Washington University, and was rejected from Kenyon College and Connecticut College. All 4 of those schools have acceptance rates between 30% and 40%. I also applied to 9 other schools that were easier to get into, and was accepted to all of them, at several with merit scholarships. Hope that's helpful!

Yeah, thanks. George Washington is actually one of the few schools i was/am tentatively considering. Wasn't really sure though because, and this applies to a lot of places, my gpa is usually relatively low but my ACT is relatively high. Your post helped.
