Hi there
I'm looking to transfer next year and I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas about the best schools for getting a BA in Theatre. I hope to use it to pursue my theater arts management degree in grad school. But, for now I would really like a very well-rounded education in theater.
So far, my best bet is Emerson in terms of what I am looking for - a school with a Liberal Arts Education and a good Theater program in a city atmosphere.
But, please let me know what you guys think are good BA Theatre programs.
Thanks so much

When my daughter toured and auditioned at Muhlenberg, our guide was a graduating Theatre major who had concentrated on theatre management and thought the program was great You may want to check out Muhlenberg.

michaelnkat - you always beat me to it! ;)

operasinger - I don't know everything you are looking for at a college but since your posting name is Opera and you are posting on a MT board, I'm going to assume that those 2 areas are both of interest. As to the opera - Indiana U at Bloomington with the Jacobs School of Music puts on amazing operas in an amazing theatre. The Theatre Dept which has 2 separate theatres has a new BFA MT although they have been training students for years in MT under the BA Theatre program. If you have never been to Bloomington it is a truly gorgeous campus. Although my D has only been there a couple weeks the number of productions going on is amazing.

FORDHAM- lincoln center campus !!!

I know I'm totally biased since I go here, but Temple has a really good BA in Theater that allows you to experience a lot of the other aspects of theater besides acting. One of our shows (full of undergrads and students that just graduate) just transfered to Off-Broadway and is opening today, I believe. It's also in a city.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I have actually changed my major, so Operasinger no longer applies lol
I'm really looking for a good BA in Theater program, not one for singing.

For a really strong theatre program in an untraditional but rigorous liberal arts program, I would check out Sarah Lawrence College. It's not in a city, but it's less than 1/2 hour from mid town Manhattan with easy train access.

Since you are interested in pursuing Theatre Arts Management - you might want to check out Otterbein. You can get a BA in Theatre there with a minor in Arts Administration. They are also very transfer-friendly. It's not in a city - but is just outside of Columbus.
