My daughter is looking at the above degree course and would like to know what other students think, or parents of students. She wants a BA but would like strong practical training. She would also like to study voice but I don't see a music minor... anyone out there in the dept. care to comment?

Hi islemom.

Since no one with more direct experience has responded, I’ll take a shot at this, even though my knowledge is mostly second hand. As I’m sure you’re aware, Drew’s theater program has consistently ranked in the top 10 in Princeton Review’s surveys. They do a couple of major productions each year; but students also have many opportunities to write, direct, do tech work, etc through courses, PIP (student “plays in progress”) and other venues. I think there may also be internships available in NYC and in local theater. With regard to vocal training, I know that the Music Dept provides individual lessons in voice and various instruments (my D took piano lessons last year). But there may be an additional cost associated with them. Probably the best way to get your questions about vocal training answered would be to call someone in the department. BTW the Dorothy Young Center for the Arts (aka DoYo) is gorgeous.
