Im applying to:
American U.
GW U.
Georgetown
Drew U.
Penn State
George Mason
Northeastern
UNC Chappel Hill
Washington and Lee
UCLA
Berkeley
Northeastern

The fact you won an award for improved GPA says something. It says something to admissions. Your ECs are amazing. SAT, fine. Hmmm. Berkeley, UCLA, and Georgetown are very hard to say. UNC is a great school though.

Well, what's your first choice?

My top choice would be Berkeley... however, i realize this would be difficult. My second choice is George Washington or American... but i need to get money to both of them.

I'll be honest with you, I was considering Berkeley. But I was told from someone who went there (cousin) that it was a stuffy, overly competitive, snobby atmosphere. Then again, there are always different perspectives. Still, it made me cross Berkeley off my list.
The UC schools are odd about admissions. I'm reading about people who were rejected from UCLA and in at Berkeley. So I'd say you should ask your guidance counselor about your chances.

What about GWU or American.. do you know about the difficulty in securing money at either of those?

Decent chance...gpa though...

Hmmm. I'm not exactly sure about that...

bump.......

American U.- decent shot
GW U..- decent shot
Georgetown- basically no shot
Drew U..- decent shot
Penn State.- decent shot
George Mason.- decent shot
Northeastern.- decent shot
UNC Chappel Hill.- decent shot
Washington and Lee.- decent shot
UCLA- basically no shot
Berkeley- basically no shot

bumppp..,...

ahhh... someone bump!

someone respond

I'd say you're in to Drew, American, Penn State, and Northeastern, and likely George Mason and GW U as well. The UCs seem unlikely, since their admissions are so number-oriented. W+L will come down to essays and recs, certainly. UNC seems like a stretch, but not impossible.

the DC area schools look good (minus georgetown) but you should apply to smaller schools that will be more sympathetic to your gpa turnaround, the University of California System will not.

It is too bad you did not apply to the University of Michigan. It is a top 10-15 university that does not even look at Freshman grades. I think you would have had a good chance had you applied earlier. At this stage, it may be a little late though.

thanks... yes.. i have a good essay and great recs so hopefully W and L will work out

anymore input???

Just put your heart and soul in those essays. You have some catchin up to do.

Jerod

bumpppppppppppp

wow you guys, maybe I go to a really odd school but there are kids who graduate from our magnet program every year with a 3.5 and like a 1300 that get into Uchicago, NYU, UNC-Chapel Hill, USC, etc. Maybe it's cause we're the #17 HS in the country? Iduno but what you guys are saying really doesnt fit my schema, I would think this kid could get into all of those schools.
