I was admitted to Babson College and Boston University with around the same grant $.
I’m majoring in Int’l Business and though I know Babson is #1 for entrepreneurship, I’m not sure how good it is for Int’l business. Especially since I want to minor in Chinese but Babson doesn’t offer foreign language courses. If anyone knows anything about Babson’s business program and BU’s Int’l business program, please feel free to respond and help me decide!
You can take Chinese at Wellesley. They have a cross registration arrangement with them. If that solves your problem, BU can’t hold a candle up to Babson, dude/gal. Babson is not as famous or big-named as BU but it is superior for what it does – undergraduate business education. And you can take internatioal econ and politics at Babson as well. Not a hard decision from here.
You can’t go wrong, but I think that BU has a better international (and national) academic reputation. I also think that Babson’s prestige is found predominantly in its entrepreneurship program, like you said, and not in international business.
Babson offers concentrations(minors) in both global business management and international business environment so there is definitely an opportunity to study international business at Babson. In addition, almost a third of all Babson students are international which means that in your every day classes, you are working with students from all around the world. A lot Babson students also study abroad at some point during their four years because although not every one studies international business, a lot of students want to understand global business. As mentioned before, you can take Chinese classes at Wellesley however Babson does offer some Chinese classes as well, depending on your level. I think that within the business community, Babson is a huge name and a lot of corporate companies know that so a lot of students are able to get jobs and internships with big companies as well!
I’d go with Babson. They’re known as an excellent college for all forms of business.
All in all though, the key question is: what’s the net cost at each?
to find net cost, do (tuition+fees+room+board) - (grants+scholarships) =
for each, and list the 2 results here.
In the 21st Century “innovation economy” all business endeavors require entrepreneurial thinking - even those at large established companies. That is why the Chinese academic elite recently came to the US to study the teaching methods at Babson - not Harvard and not Wharton.
That program (TETA) has been expanded to become the current SEE-Asia program. Babson is well known in Asia and internationally.
BU is fine, but I would choose Babson for the reasons others have mentioned and also because it’s much smaller (smaller classes, more attention, etc.) and very business focused.
I’d say it comes down to size and do you want a large campus and student body, lots of electives to choose from with so many colleges at the university and location- you like to just walk or jump a trolley/taxi for a short distance to downtown Boston. Academically they are pretty much on par. It’s size that really sets them apart, I think. Visit again and see where you can imagine yourself being. Hopefully it will be that ah-ha moment.
I’m in the same situation as you are in! Currently deciding between BU and Babson. I’m a finance major but am hoping to transfer to Wharton sophomore year. I’m also fluent in both mandarin and cantonese and would be interested in further refining my studies in Chinese language.
Right now I’m leaning towards Babson…Hope to meet you!
