I have had a regular babysitting position for over a month. I work about 10 hours a week afterschool 3 days/week. I pick up the 2 boys from school, help with homework, clean the house, do laundry and run errands.

I drive 10 to 20 miles per week using my own car.
It's a hard job and the kids aren't very well behaved.

I get paid $9/hr. and I only get like $2.50/wk for gas. I feel like I'm being ripped off!

Does anyone have a similar job? And if so what do you get paid?

$9/hr? No, you're not being ripped off, unless you have professional degrees/certificates in housekeeping/childcare. $9 is $3.75 above minimum wage and is a pretty decent wage compared to most teen jobs.

And, that "10-20 miles a WEEK" you complain about, I drive in a DAY! And, 20 miles a week shouldn't even take a gallon of gas (unless you have an SUV, then I'd suggest you downsize). So, $2.50-$3.00 for gas is sufficient (even in CA).

if you really have to clean the house, do laundry and run errands.
Demand a raise, $12/hour my plus .20 cents a mile for errands, my cleaning lady gets $50 per visit, and you there mulitiple days.

You are getting paid $90 a week just to pick some kids up from school and entertain them for a few hours 3x a week? Where do I sign? You don't know how good you have it. Get a job at the grocery store or in fast food for $7 an hour (minus taxes) doing mindnumbing labor, you'll appreciate the kids.

um I believe that the write off for a vehicle is now .37 per mile. Try to get 750 for gas. Remember that you are paying gas, car depriciation and insurance. But, maybe this is just because I am thinking of it like my business.

Personally, I'd be really irritated if some teenager wanted an increase. I babysit and I make whatever they feel like giving me. If you do try to ask for a raise, you need to be very professional and polite and not pressure them.

Most babysitters in my district need no raises, since they make around $30-50/hr. There are some who make even higher wages since they work in the richer families for very long periods of time, as much as seven hours/day.

I personally wouldn't do all that work for only 9/hr...I got 10/hr for tutoring 1 of my neighbors. But you are taking care of 2 kids, helping with their work, housework/errands...Seems like a handful.

well, i'm no babysitter, but i tutor this girl twice a week, one hour on mondays and one and a half hour on wednesdays. they pay 85 dollars/week, (35 for one hour and 50 for one and a half). but i don't see a penny cus my mom takes it all.
