I'm sorry if this is already a thread--in that case, just direct me to the right place.

My dad and I are trying to help manage my sister's college application & audition plans, but neither of us are very knowledgeable about MT. She has a pretty good list right now of schools she wants to audition for in MT and a few schools she will audition for as a voice major, but what happens if she does not get into any of them?

We tried to find out what other careers she'd like to pursue if she wasn't able to major in some type of performance, and she said she'd like to work in the entertainment field somehow, such as a producer, manager, etc. What are good programs for these?

Thanks!

Mtbigsis,

My D is a rising senior and can't imagine being out of the theatre. But she is also realistic about the selectiveness of the MT programs.

She can get a degree in Theatre Management/Arts Administration. Many programs require a minor in an artistic area. There's also Stage Management and Dramaturgy.

If you'd like more information (I've done research already) pm or e-mail me and I'll send it to you.

Every school that I'm looking at, I'm looking at a minor (or a double major where available) in theatre arts management. Also, UC Irvine is a non-audition MT school (it actually may be theatre with a focus in MT) that apparently has a good program.

I don't know much about the management area, although I think many schools with MT may also have that.

For non-audition good options - I recommend Indiana University and Texas Christian University.

Your sister might want to consider a degree in Entertainment Business that is offered at Oklahoma City University.

Here's the info: http://www.okcu.edu/Dance_amgt/entertainment.html

Have you thought about a BA in Theater Studies, with perhaps a minor in another discipline, i.e., music or dance? In some colleges, those not chosen for the MT program will be put into BA programs, and then have the option of minoring in a related area or taking triple threat classes outside the school.

Good luck.

music industry major could be a consideration as well, and of course apply to a few schools that are not audition programs and/or BA programs which actually may be more suited for her wide range of interest that it appears she has
