Backstage Article

Did anyone else see the article in a Backstage listing budget friendly schools? Boco was number 1. Seriously?

I just read it, who’s budget are they looking at? Not mine for sure LOL

Can you post a link?

There are many other programs they could have highlighted that actually are “budget friendly”:
[6 College Programs for Actors on a Budget | Backstage](http://www.backstage.com/news/spotlight/6-college-programs-actors-budget/)

BoCo is in the top five for parental plus loan burdens – a sure sign of a program that costs a lot and offers little or no aid. What a terrible list. Where is Ball State?

Just read the article (thanks for the link, austinmtmom). Three words: Out. Of. Touch!! There are so many other schools that are truly budget friendly!

Wow. I wouldn’t consider any of them to be on a budget list

I was surprised at their perspective on “affordable” too! Do we have a Top 10 List of Affordable BFA programs here on CC? If I had some spare time, it would be fun to do it by region . . . maybe someone with some time on their hands can tackle it!? :)

That list is more like the least affordable. Wow.

kksmom5. It’s called the least expensive BFA in the US. I don’t know how to copy the link but I’m sure you can do a thread search that’s how I found it

Some thoughts:

 • I think the Backstage article was more of a Consumer Reports style “best buy” list - not the least expensive - more of a “bang for your buck”
 • I did, for myself, a while back, make a similar “best buy list” and both CCM and Elon were on my list
 • A newer best buy is Texas State - they have great faculty and leadership and have a low in-state tuition and seem to have a lot of money for scholarships.

Here is the thread link mentioned in posts #8 and #10:

Judging by it’s title, I think the article completely missed it’s mark, by a long shot. Boco on a “budget” list?

I would have thought the first recommendation for “An Actor On a Budget” would be, “go to a state school where you qualify for in-state tuition,” followed by, “if you have good grades and test scores, look for a school where you beat the stat line and qualify for a nice chunk of academic merit aid.” Maybe the third suggestion would be, “look at schools that are audition-for-scholarship,” some of them will even pay for your trip to visit if you impress them at a regional audition.

I think the writer got a pile of press releases on scholarships from the schools that are mentioned and didn’t do any more research than that.
