Bad AP Scores: How devastatingly will they hurt my chances?

Listen guys I got bad news...

I took four AP classes during my junior year and I got bad scores on them!! I got a 5 on Chem (which as good) but then for history and Lang I got 4's.... and then for Calculus BC i got a 3!!! Although I'm applying for Cornell's school of engineering!! But on the upside I have a hundred average for the class (no joke) So what is the verdict?

Will my chances be hurt if they see that Calculus BC gave me a 3? Will it be somewhat negated by the fact I sustained a hundred? Opinions!! Thank you.

You don’t even have to send the score, first of all.

And popular theory holds that the scores are not considered in admissions.

Don’t sweat it. AP scores aren’t weighted very heavily at all in terms of admissions consideration and a 3 on Calc BC is not bad at all. You won’t get credit in Engineering, but in (I believe) any other college at Cornell you would. But make sure your other standardized test scores, especially math, are high as this is pretty important for both Engineering admissions and doing well once you get there.

I think you’ll be fine. I didn’t even take calc bc until i was a senior.

3 on calc BC would not credit engineering math.

I applied (and was accepted) to cornell with a 5 on AP Bio and a 3 on AP American. And i only took AP Physics and AP Gov my senior year. Not too impressive compared to many other candidates.

Thanks for the info guys… but fallenmerc and Intellectual 5 and malan… what about engineering students… I got a 760 in the SAT math section and hopefully my SAT II math will be 750+. Is this good enough?

i had a 760 in math too, but i applied to CAS

yes, those SAT/II scores are good enough for Engineering Math.

Those AP scores are actually pretty good.

I didnt report any of my AP scores to Cornell and I got in. Though it helps that my ACT/SAT II were pretty good

Yes, calm the hell down. There is no real difference at all between getting a 760 and an 800 on an SAT, particularly on SAT math which is basically just a test of how long you can stay interested in half-nonsense middle school algebra and geometry questions.

lol @ asdefaoeu

dont worry, they wont weigh too heavily into your application, APs are generally used for course credit
