Engineering Chances?

I definitely want to apply for Cornell Engineering and am curious about what people think my chances are. Here's a quick run through of stats and stuff. Thanks!

SAT: Math - 760, Critical Reading - 720, Writing - 730 (from one test)
SAT IIs: Math II - 800, Chem - 740
APs: Calc BC - 5, Chem - 4, Physics B - 4, English Language - 4, European History - 4
I'm also taking AP Gov, Marco Econ, English, Physics C, and Computer Science this year.
Weighted GPA - 4.27 (thats my weak spot...)

Awards/EC
AP Scholar with Distinction
National Merit Commended
NHS
Tons of volunteer work - includes volunteering at hospitals, food banks, mission trips to Mexico to build houses and set up carnivals.
Drumline/Band for 4 years
Outstanding soloist at state UIL percussion contest
Youth and Government, won best witness a few years ago and best attorney this year
German Club
Studied Classical Piano for 12 years
Am a private math tutor

the science APs/SATII’s might hurt only because i’ve heard many applicants have perfect scores in those areas. what’s your background?

Thanks so much for your input!
What kind of information are you looking for when you ask what my background is?

I heard AP scores don’t actually matter in decisions.
Your Math SAT Subject is fine [800 is “average” for engineering] and Science SAT Subject scores usually aren’t as high as the math one. Not nearly as many kids get 800.
Anyway, your SATs and GPA actually seem fine to me. What’s your UW?

Do you have URM or first generation status? How competitive is your HS?

And what is your class rank?

I’m not sure what my unweighted GPA is but my high school is a magnet school that is extremely competitive. Counselors always tell kids the competitiveness and such would be put in the counselor letter to schools. My class is rank is pretty low, i’m about 18th percentile…which is a little iffy for schools like Cornell I think.

A drumline applicant! woohoo!

Sorry i don’t have any substantial input. hahaha I don’t really know much about the admissions statistics for any of the colleges except for AAP. :P

95% of accepted students in Engineering were in the top 10%

So yes, I would say your weighted GPA is probably your weakest aspect.

You could make it up with a detailed essay about why you want to go to Cornell and what clubs/classes/research makes you want to go there.
Be specific, drop names, and be enthusiastic.

Thanks for your time/input chendrix. I’ll definitely take your recommendation for the why Cornell essay.

Any other opinions? They would be very much appreciated!
