I visited there resently, and was very disapointed. The campus just looked very unorganized and random. I visited UCONN before that and UCONN blew out UMASS. I was very disappointed in UMASS

You’re never going to see Williams or Harvard in a state school. It just wont happen. With that said, I enjoyed the library, performing arts building, student center, and honors college building. They also have a really nice lab building that was built quite recently. Southwest is pretty ugly. Not sure what you mean by organization.

Then just go to UConn. What is griping about it in the Umass forum going to do?

The campus is a museum of some of the most noted architects of the 20th century–Edward Durrell Stone, Gordon Bunshaft, Kevin Roche, Marcel Breuer, and Hugh Stubbins, Jr., for example. Many are in Brutalist style, not to everyone’s taste, but hardly nondescript boxes, either.

I actually found UMASS much more organized than I expected, the whole bullseye pattern seems to make sense. Have never visited UCONN , so can’t compare the twol

I can understand that you don’t think the infrastructure is as attractive as UConn, but c’mon – living in Storrs for 4 years compared with living in the Amherst/Northampton area? UMass has it all over UConn, in my humble opinion.

The Amherst area is soooo much better than Storrs. Granted the campus is not cozy but it is a very good school.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I hated Storrs and loved Umass. It all depends on how you feel, so dont Bad mouth schools unless you have a valid reason.

While I am not usually one for modern architecture, and used to sneer at the UMass campus, I must say that I have grown to like the campus. If you look at the layout on a map it is actually quite organized. Additionally, the academic campus is quite attractive, and I have come to admire the library and the fine arts center. Also, some of the residential areas provide the traditional red brick style college buildings and are indeed quite beautiful in the “normal” sense of the word.

When I first visited this campus I just drove around the perimeter and it seemed a bit bleak, but when I went back and took the tour I was very favorably impressed. The new sports complex and science building are impressive and the other buildings I visited all looked good. I have also been to Storrs and that campus is also nice looking, but the athletic facilities available for non-varsity people like myself look grim and the place is sort of out in the middle of nowhere, whereas Amherst is a cute little town and Northampton is a very happening place (accessible via the free inter-campus bus system.)
