I have 20/15 vision in each eye, yet an astigmatism of .75 diopters and for that im only nav qual. Will I be able to get it waived to be a pilot? Or can I get surgery?

On this site, if you fall within a regular astigmatism, PRK should fix it, but you'd have to get more info on what kind you have.

Thanks for the info it was helpful and i feel better. So do you think i could fly?

Not for me to decide. But if you don't come, then you definitely won't fly. ;)

heh. aint that the truth

So to be qualified for PRK do u have to have an astigmatism of 0.75 or lower? Or can u have an astigmatism higher than 0.75 and still be qualified for PRK? Because i have researched the qualifications for PRK and I could not find the information to my question. And also what type of contact lenses are better for astigmatism correction, would it be toric or gas permeable lenses?

o nvm, i just read what hornetguy said about the same question i stated for my first two.

You would have to have an optometrist figure out which kind of astigmatism you have in order to answer those. I only know what I do from internet research, I have yet to talk to anyone here, I will try to soon though. Patience children!

Haha that's true hornetguy.

wikipedia is a good source of info... so, summary: if you have good grades and your eyes fall under the qualifications of PRK, then the academy may choose you for it.

Oh, wikipedia. haha :)

yes, its the best.... lots good info there ;)
