I checked my grades and it seems that all my grades are all pretty good. I got a 98 in math, 95 in science, 93 in english, 98 in spanish 1, and I also have an 102 in religion since I go to a private school. The one thing that really bugs me is my 89 in AP world history. I know for a fact that its bound to drop even further and with the quarter ending in two weeks, I have almost no chance to bump it up. I would partially say its my fault for not trying hard but I also blame my teacher cause she's horrible at teaching. Anyways, I always to go to an ivy league such as harvard but these first quarter grades scare me. I heard that colleges look at semester grades but this first quarter grade is bound to bring it down. Are my dreams done? I know that upward trend is good but I know consistently good is even better. I really want to get into harvard, now im crushed if this does something. WIll it?

chill out man… it’s not worth getting so jacked up for…

in the grand scheme of things, it probably won’t matter at all, and if it does, it will be miniscule. they don’t even look @ quarter grades anyways afaik

Considering that the admit rate for Harvard is only 5%, chances are that you will not get in, period…

Colleges will see what’s on your transcript, and most high schools only have semester grades on transcripts (some will have quarter grades on transcripts but AFAIK they are a minority).

Plus, colleges don’t look too much into freshman year anyway.

My son got an 80 in honors science for his entire freshman year grade. He got into Amherst, Wash U, and seven other schools, so it didn’t hurt him too badly. You’ll be fine. As the others mentioned, though, don’t get your heart set on an ivy.

You’re right. Semester grades–not quarter grades–are what colleges look at it. Just try to bring it up a bit next semester.

Your freshman year is by far the least important.

One B+ will not make or break admission to a top-tier school.

Thanks, that’s a relief. It’s just that other people are good all year across so that was what worried me.
