Hi, I was wondering if because of Yale's no-score-choice policy if bad first-try subject tests will hurt your chances. I took 3 in June, and I ended up with a 650 in US History (terrible, I know), a 700 in French (could've done better), and a 760 in Math 2 (eh, I would've been happy about that but just about everyone on here got an 800). I felt unprepared and nervous, because I was caught up in finals, etc. I was thinking of canceling, but didn't.
My question is, if I want to apply to Yale and retake these in October, will my first try hurt me or do they really just consider your top 2 scores? If so, do I have to study for history again over the summer to redeem myself (I really want to be done with history, I did not like the test even though I took AP) or can I just forget about it altogether and take a different test, or focus on getting really good scores on these two? I'm definitely not setting my hopes on Yale because I know it's super hard to get into, but it would be kind of amazing.

I would not retake the math. My rising junior had a 760 so it is good enough for Yale.

That is good to hear! I feel like with more preparation and a better mindset I could do better (and better on math than on any other subject), so I still feel like I should probably retake.
However, I’m wondering if it is necessary for me to retake history. Re-studying history would mean a huge time commitment, and I feel like the test is just not my strong suit. Will it hurt me if I don’t retake it?

Yale doesn’t require 3 subject tests, does it? I don’t know exactly how this works, but if they are true to their word about only looking at your best scores, then the History score shouldn’t matter. I would agree that if you’re a science-y type person, then putting that amount of effort into studying to retake the history probably doesn’t make sense.
