Hey all. I'm debating whether or not to retake my SAT II Spanish and SAT I. I'm applying to schools like Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, and UPenn with a 4.00/4.00, rank of 1/677, and decent extracurriculars and volunteer activities. My first SAT I score is 790V 740M and my Spanish is 750. My other ones are Writing:800, Lit:790, U.S. History:790, and I just took the Chem and Math2C. Your august opinions on whether or not retakes are necessary would be appreciated. :-)

Why the hell would you retake the subject tests? Is this some sick joke? (And if you're actually serious... no, it'd be a big waste of time and money to retake.)

No...it's not a sick joke. :-) I'm serious. I've just been told by a lot of classmates that 750 is rather low for a language test even if it isn't my native language

if you could pull off a 780+ on the Spanish test, retake it. You're right about the language scores - the averages are usually in the upper 700's. Otherwise, your stats look very nice - gl with Yale!

I'd appreciate a feedback on my stats as well - I made the thread "Chances at Duke, JHU, and more?" Btw how'd you study for the writing one? I'm retaking that in November, and I want to do very well on it =P

Are you kidding me? This must be a joke right?

They only consider your top three scores, and you have one 800 and two 790s.

If you want to retake, I say SAT I. That is if you have an intense desire to retake :-)

Reality Check: scores get your foot in the door, but they do only that. They don't get you in.

Your foot is in the door. But my stats were higher than yours and I had a stellar app all-around and I got rejected from Yale.

I think you scores are fine. You should concentrate on other areas of your application.

Thanks everyone for your opinions. Drownindreams, I do realize that scores are not everything, and I plan on having an equally "stellar" application. However, if I'm rejected, I'd like to know that it wasn't over a test score, which is something I have in my power to change.

There is no reason to do it. The Admissions Office will not even see it. At an information meeting, someone asked a similar question and the officer said that when they receive your app at yale, the people input all your info into a computer, which only sends your top 3 scores on to be looked at. In your case, the 800 and 2x 790 would be looked at.

Thanks for your post newt. I didn't know that and now I'm glad that I do! :-)

are you serious about yale?? that's awesome! I didn't have to re-take my awful IIC then. Oh well, other schools might count it so it's just as well.
