I've seen several posts about this, so I'm sorry if you have to deal with this a lot. I'm a senior on high school with and A-B average through all years 4 years. Gpa hasn't been under 3.5. I live in Illinois, which is the only state that requires that you legally take PE every single day, which is stupid, but anyway. Up until 2nd quarter (current quarter) of this year, my gym grade has been all A's. However there is a new teacher, and she's started making PE a lot less fun, requiring that we take written tests every week, and if we don't dress for the day, we get -10 points, which absolutely KILLS a grade. We maybe play a game once a week. I've dressed a few times, but I've also not dressed a few times, and as I result, I have an F right now. Gym doesn't affect my GPA, and I've never had a delinquency issue. Thank you in advance for your help!

I went to a private school and we had the subject of “religion” unlike other schools. Obviously because it was such a huge part and indeed factored into the GPA I had to study study study like other subjects.

Even if PE does not factor into your GPA, bad grade sticks out like a sore thumb and MAY indicate your commitment level/ incompetence in the area. I don’t know the caliber of the schools you are applying to but adcoms might see the bad grade and assume that you already started to depart from your academic rigor.

That’s about the only bad thing about the bad scores in PE, Health, etc.

I would bring it up asap.

You are a Senior and you know what is expected of you. Dress for PE everyday.

@Tigernic: Many universities discount PE, including only “core” academic subjects in the GPA they compute and utilize for admission evaluation. With this said, however, I believe D or F in PE could drive other, undesirable questions, such as did you receive this grade because you’re ill-behaved, recalcitrant, and/or disruptive. Please understand, I’m not suggesting these things (or others like them) are accurate, but such a reaction would certainly be understandable.

The fact that you have a bad grade because you deliberately chose not to follow rules will do more than just raise an eyebrow with admissions committees.

Why get so far only to act like a toddler and make your own life so difficult? Do as expected, if you need to fix the present grade, go and grovel, ask what you can do to fix your grade, ask what to do for extra credit, be mature. Apologize for being childish.

"…I’ve also not dressed a few times, and as I result, I have an F right now." Just put on the required clothes. Pretty simple solution.
