I've noticed this quite a bit. People saying "good" instead of "well." Countless spelling errors (not just "u" instead of "you")... Most of the people here claim to have 1400+ SAT scores (as well as 4.0 GPA), but still make errors like this. What's the deal?

Most persons are lazy.

You can get a 1400 SAT score and get 600 on the verbal lol

well thx 4 da tips sonny, but I think nobody rly cares eh? Anyhoo, lifes good, were in college, ya dat rox. So wazzup? where u applyin too? Whats ur SAT score? Hmm?

Welcome to the boards. Hypocrisy is often overlooked, so don't fret! : )

who really cares if people make grammatical errors. this is an online message board.

1590 SAT I, and 2380 SAT II, and ill write whatever way is fastest...im a busy guy, after all!

To athlonmj:
I don't care, I was just pointing out the irony. Is it much harder to type "well" instead of "good?"

To Nom:
... you're referring to what, Nom? How there were sentence fragments in my initial post? How I forgot the "s" on "GPA?"

To deus:
Hilarious. Though I'm not reprimanding anyone, I just think it is kind of funny. For example, students who want to get accepted to Harvard make threads titled "what are my chances?" in a forum with the same title, rather than opting to present as much information in the thread title as possible.

Merely an observation.

I think it is harder to type well instead of good because in order to type well, one has to stretch that fourth left finger and risk hitting the nearby "2" or "e". Keys were placed where they are for a reason: ease. :) jk

do you get beat up a lot in school?

Welcome to the internet.

cantstandmenow:

But this board hosts the best and the brightest of high school students, not your average ****-ups. I would just imagine there to be intelligent discussion, large vocabularies, and even some highly nerdy topics, but that isn't the case at all.

How many people at HYP (the "best and brightest" students) sit around and have nerdy conversations using their large vocabularies? Not many.

perhaps they expend all their capacity for intelligent discussion, large vocabularies, and even some highly nerdy topics during school and come to cc to release the cretin within. oh how risqué wallow in debauchery on a college discussion forum, I know. but thats what makes everyone such wonderful, wonderful geeks. those who do devote their spare time to such scholarly pursuits seem more suited for the beautiful academic torture of uchicago anyway.

You'll find that those who are the "best and the brightest" are only driven to succeed in some white collar career, not to actually learn because they enjoy doing so. If you want intelligent discussion you ought to go where the real academics are.

The main selling point for the HYP's is reputation for grad schools, not neccessarily quality education.

And I would hardly call anyone here a "geek." Geeks are not aspiring lawyers and CEO's in 50 extracurricular activities. Most geeks write fanfic, while time away on the playstation or some rpg or compulsively collect music.

"The main selling point for the HYP's is reputation for grad schools, not neccessarily quality education."

Yes, necessarily quality education. What, are you mad?

How many people want to go there because they are intellectualy curious? How many want to go there because it's the king Ivy?

What does that have to do with a quality education?

Sitting in a crowded lecture hall staffed by a TA who can't speak english is not very learning condusive, is it? But that's Harvard, and that's also the UW and other favorite state universities. Not all Ivies are like that, but if you're just curious...there might be better places.

You would think that people have better things to worry about (i.e, themselves) than how someone is typing on an online message board.
