I'm a sophomore in high school and am now in a Honors Chemistry class. I'm on the NJ Science League club at school, so I'm pretty good at science. I was considering taking SATII Chem this June but some people have said that you need to take AP Chem to do well.

So do you think I'll be prepared enough to take the SATII by June? I know there are a couple of things we don't cover in our class (like electrochemistry) but I think I can self study that.

I would say I was in almost the exact same position as you last year. I was in Chem Honors as a sophomore. I took the test and got an 800. I did some cursory review and some practice tests. My teacher was not all that great. The point being, you will probably get a good score. Get Barron's, read that book, do the practice tests and you will be set.

Yes - Chem Honors is sufficient for the SAT II. I'm basically a clone of The Wanderer except I used PR instead of Barron's.

I have a situation somewhat related to this (at least, it involves SAT2 Chem) so I'll ask here rather than create a new thread:

I took AP Chem this year and am studying for the AP test at the moment. I'm signed up for the SAT 2 Chem right now and studying for the AP test rather than for the SAT 2. Is that sufficient or should I learn more in depth stuff not necessary for the AP test?

Okay, so not entirely related...but to answer your question, sunshine_breeze, my teacher said SAT 2 material is about halfway between Honors and AP material so you should be okay if you study.

Thanks for your responses guys!

Annie, just focus on the AP test. If you do well enough on that, you will also do well on the SAT II; it is slightly easier. However, after the AP, be sure to practice the SAT II, b/c there are weird types of questions, like the multiple choices where you have to say if the two statements are true or false and if one statement explains the other.
