Bad SAT scores mar good ACT ones?

So, I'm planning on sending in my ACT scores instead of my SAT scores.
But the problem is.. wouldn't the admission officers see my SAT scores through my score report with my SAT II's?

I bombed the SAT's. The ACT's were much better.
I find it hard to believe that the admissions officers could possibly ignore my horrible SAT scores when it's right there on paper.
I'm just wondering how this all works out.. I really do not want those SAT scores to effect my chances at any college.

Looking back, I should of never taken the SAT's in the first place..

Care to share details?

yea i'm interested in this question too...

I could be in a similar spot as well. Someone shed some light!

I'm in this position as well. ACT 33 but SAT 1890..=P

I plan on re-taking the SAT.

nemzie: that's curious... are you a rising sr? Have you taken any SAT IIs yet?

HaoJin: how about you?

So my ACT score is a 30, and my SAT's are around the 1500's which looks terrible.
I have taken the SAT II's and they're all well above 700.

I'm a rising senior.

Wow, that's weird... I assume you're applying to schools that require SAT IIs, so they will receive the full report... Did you take ACT and SAT only one time? Also, what's the breakdown of your scores (section by section)? Which SAT IIs?

I took both exams once.
The breakdown was: 490 CR, 660 M, 430 W with a 7 essay.
Alongside my 30 (for the ACT's).. the essay grade for that exam was much better, a 10.

I have taken US History 730, Math 1 720, Math 2 740.
I'm retaking the math in November though, along with Chinese (I'm a native, but I didn't know the language at all until this summer)

I'm anticipating a 730+ on Chinese though.

Where are you applying and why are you retaking Math (1 or 2?) Also, do you have your ACT breakdown? What month/yr did you take SAT I?

ACT was 30 English, 30 Reading, 33 Math, 28 Science, 10 essay.
The SAT score was the latest one.

I'm only retaking the Math ones over again just because I don't have to pay for my next 3 exams. I'm really not good at any other subjects. Might as well try and improve it..

Well, I'm really interested in Williams, that's the school I would most likely matriculate to if I was to be accepted, but it's quite a stretch.

My high school background might help support me a little. My school isn't competitive at all, it's a school for minorities (mainly the black race), and its really rare for students to go beyond 600's on the SAT's or 30's on the ACT's. I believe on average.. students hit the 400's on every section of the SAT's and 20's on the ACT's.
It's not competitive, but it's curriculum is very rigorous. Only a few AP's are offered. But I'm taking about 7-10 AP's that aren't offered. The school day is extended from 8 to 5.
I'm first generation btw.

Now.. back on topic... so.. the officers will see my horrible scores then huh?
If only collegeboard could begin the new reporting policy now.. :(

If only... Well, I don't think I would put the scores down when you fill out the Common App, just put ACT (UNLESS SCHOOL MANDATES SAT I, WHICH I CAN'T IMAGINE!) and the SAT IIs. You could re-take the ACT, does your state offer it in Sept? If you do, do not have scores automatically sent to Williams or anywhere else. Send them yourself, AFTER you see your scores.

What you need to do is focus on the rest of your application, do you have a decent GPA/class rank? How about ECs? Have you started your essays? IMPROVE where you can improve.

tmi, When you send your SAT IIs, the colleges see the SAT I scores too.

^Of course they do azngod1992, that's the issue here! What do you advise?

You can relax. I know for a fact that students at my school who bombed
the SAT and aced the ACT got into the top schools in multiple
years.

in most colleges the admission officers never really see your score report,
these are recompiled by someone else and presented to them as just
scores for their consideration. they are going to dig in and see all your scores
only if you have piqued their interest and in that case your ACT score will
talk to your aptidue/reasoning proficiency.

Make sure you only put ACT down in the 'ACT/SATI' part of the common APP.

Yes, only put ACT score on common app (or any other app if schools use their own!)!!!
