Hi, I’m a sophmore this year, so I am not imediatly looking at college but i have a question. i had a terrible semester this year, where i averaged a 3.492. i averaged a 3.75 as a freshman and usually am around 3.7-3.9. my teachers say i dont try, which is true and im am going to fix that, but im wondering if this will hurt my chances in the long run. i have already taken the ACT and i got a 27 last year as a freshman. I have many extra curricular activities such as acting ,and playing varsity basketball in a state championship program. I am always in the 99th on standerdized tests and i am usually in the top 5 in my class. how bad will this semester hurt me?

Do good this next semester, so that you can make up for it. Don't worry and keep on going. 27 on ACT as a freshmen is pretty good. By the time you are a junior, you should be set.

Good Luck,

Jerod

that really depends on the classes you are taking. If you are taking a baking class, and you got a C+, thats gonna hurt. But if you are taking a class, such as AP US History, and got a C+, thats not nearly as bad as you might think. Secondly, if you can get some nice test scores, and bring those grades up, your sophomore year really wont matter as much. Just continue to take the hardest courses available and you'll be fine.

yeah, im looking to go to Notre Dame at the moment, do you think this will hury my chances at that?

I don't why but I always read and hear that junior year is really really important. All years are important, but for some reason colleges zone in on junior year.

Junior year is the most important because

it's the last full year the a college will see your stats for
and

that's the year when people usually get into the meat of their schedule, loading up on APs and IBs

and to the origional poster, your gpa will be fine.

Ever heard of the Sophmore slump? Just about everyone has it. Just try to remember what worked last year.

You should be fine.

Just try from now on. Test scores and grades aren't all of you, keep your EC's up and do well on your PS during senior year and you should do well.
