bags+laptops...

A few questions regarding laptops, and the things we can carry them in.

Any one have any bags they would highly recommend? So far, I like the Ogio Politan ( http://www.ebags.com/ogio/politan/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=89329 ). I need something that'll be able to hold at least 2 text books.

Also, I just bought one of those Targus Laptop Locks. Is there any real need for that, or should I just return it?

Thanks,

I was eyeing that Targus lock ($49!!) but S mentioned that McGill has an antitheft service with some security company from the US. It brands some sort of logo and ID number onto your laptop that makes it rather unattractive at local pawn shops.
I just really worry about the info ON the computer rather than the computer itself.

thank you, woody. Has your son found a bag yet?

Oh yeah, I also forgot to ask about boots/winter shoes?

What do people suggest?/is there any particular place students go to get winter gear once they get on campus?

On this topic, hows McGill's fashion sense because this IS montreal? Are all the kids stylish or would I just expect your average uni student.

Buy your boots in the US. Prices tend to be higher in Montreal with all the tax applied to same.

I usually agree with brooklynmom, but boots are so important that I would give a caveat to her answer.

It depends on where you live if you want to buy your winter boots in the US or Montreal. If you live in a "cold" weather state, such as here in Vermont, go ahead and buy substantial boots. But if you live in a "warm" weather state, anywhere where it doesnt snow too much, wait until you get to Montreal. It is very unlikely to actually find boots that are made to be functional (as opposed to fashion) and can stand up to MTL winters in a southern or southwestern state. A boot purchase will be one of your most important decisions impacting on your feelings about life at McGill. (Really!!)

How about Sorrells (sp?)?? S bought a pair yesterday. They sure look toasty: over the ankle, waterproof, removable and therefore, dry-able, liners! We discovered them years ago when we spent winters up in mcgilldad country. Please tell they'll be OK!

Does IL/Chicago count as an area whose boots'll be able to stand up to the MTL winter?
