What are you going to carry all your stuff around in?
I don't know if I should get a new back pack, or a messenger bag, or one of those one-shoulder bags.
I should probably get something I can put alaptop in though, right?
What are you guys geting for college?

Easy to use, holds laptop, popular.......many different styles.

if you are used to carrying lots of books, perhaps a regular bookbag is most convenient as it distributes the weight better. I don't know. whatever fits your style best i guess.

Did you use a messenger bag in highschool? Well, if you need to carry big books, don't use a messenger bag. I tried it once and my back and neck and shoulders just ached and ached. Use a normal bag. If you aren't carrying much of anything, use the messenger bag. I don't know about the trapezoid bags, but then again, I don't really care.

I don't know where you will be going to school? Metro/Rural? Weather? I am at a metro campus and messenger bags are the most popular because they are the most useful. As for filled with books? I don't know too many students who don't return to their room during the day and as for classes back to back.....three maybe. You need to think a bit differently.....you are not away from home on campus and you are not doing 6 classes back to back.

i'm going to WUSTL, and it'll probably be a 10-15 minute walk from my dorm to my classes

The dorms at WUSTL are all very close to the classrooms. I cannot speak to that campus as for popularity but I can tell you that East Coast is messenger bags.

At my school, the boat bags that LL Bean sells are hugely popular.

Saw a really nice red Quiksilver laptop backpack today, and I'm tempted, or else get a messenger bag.

anyone know of a nice inconspicuous laptop backpack? manageably sized and hopefully able to hold a 17" laptop? I can't seem to find one that doesn't scream, "Come rob my expensive ware."

The American Eagle University Tote....

Um... i bought a longchamp tote. it was kinda expensive but hey.......

Tote bags? Since when were those popular with the youngins? I'm not talking about those tacky magazine/caprisun totes, either.

thats what it looks like. i think its cute......

I like what I ended up doing for a bag. My first year we had a week long orientation before classes started and I was so freaked out that I wouldn't know anyone or wouldn't be able to fill all my time up that I brought fabric with me to make my school bag. It was seriously a really good idea to have something definitive to do while I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing. Not the answer for someone who doesn't sew though.

I use a gym bag, but i really think i ought to move to a messenger bag.

for girls, i love caseclosedbags.com. they have some really cute stuff

I just bought a Champion normal backpack that has a kind of pouch I guess you could call it that holds my laptop in place. That way, it's not a conspicuous laptop backpack, but still keeps my laptop secure.

Ima use my black og jansport backpack that I've had all through high school.
