Bah! ED- a mere 25 days away. Who's a nervous wreck?

I know I certainly am. I keep trying to ween myself from the delicious notion of Northwestern being my verymosttippity-toppest choice by saying, “OK, Elizabeth, be realistic. You would only be MILDLY depressed for a RELATIVELY long period of time if you didn’t get in.”

It is little consolation.
I love Northwestern so much. I did the Cherubs program this summer from Theatre Arts and I can safely assert that it was the best experience I’ve had as an artist. Juniors: GO TO IT. I hope to wriggle my way into the Creative Writing for the Media Program, and if not, then double major in English and Theater (across schools, gasp.)

My stats (I transferred from a 200-person K-12 school to a 2200-person school):
The short version: I make mostly As. Spattering of Bs in Math and French. The semester I transferred, my grades plummeted. Brought them up by about 10 points each. GPA is about a 4.0, but it’s hard to judge. Class rank at old school would probably have been 2 or 3/60, but going off junior year alone was 96/454.
The long version:
Froshy (all As):
English (no honors offered)
Studio Art
Honors Geometry
Ancient/Medieval European History (no honors/APs offered)
French 2
Journalism
Comp Apps/PE
Biology

Sophomore (all As, Bs 2nd semester Algebra 2 and French):
English (no honors offered)
Hon. Algebra II
Advanced Studio Art
Theater /Seniors-only Creative Writing
Journalism
Modern European History (no honors/APs offered)
Chemistry
French 3

Junior:
Honors English 3 (no APs offered) B/A
Physics B/A
AP US C/B
Auditioned Women’s Ensemble A/A
Precalculus (honors weight) B/B
French 4 (honors weight) B/B

Senior:
AP Lit A
AP French lang. B
AP Calculus B
Auditioned Small Ensemble A
Civic &Economics (state req.) A
Earth Science (state req.) A
Health (state req.) A

Spiffy Things:
-NHS/Headmaster’s Honor Roll/National Honor Roll/Boo yah
-SAT I- 1420 (710, 710. Then took it again and got 710, 710. I'm too durn consistant.)
- SAT IIs- Writing, 790. A less stellar Math IIC 660 and a revolting French sans listening 640.
-About 15 plays/musicals with different organizations and schools (including NHSI at Northwestern, Duke, and Phillips Andover); directing Metamorphoses at Duke this spring
-Pres./Founder Drama Club
-2 Years Varsity Hockey and one of basketball (the days before I knew I was not an athlete, but rather, the opposite.)
-A poopy, albeit hilarious, year at a TCBY
-Won the poetry and short fiction contests at my old school
-Four year staff member of either the newspaper or literary magazine
-Mentor to this really awesome girl whom I looooove.
-Class secretary 9th, 10th
-Church/missions to inner-city San Antonio
- Not that they really care, but I run about 25 miles a week.

Teacher recommendations from my Precalculus teacher who realized how hard I worked to dig myself out and adjust at my new school, and from my Creative Writing/Journalism/English teacher/soulmate at my old school.

Essay was the Nixon one, a sort of self-mockery talking about myself and the hilarity of my two handicapped parents during my school switch, as compared to a tabloid-stalked celebrity, with a recurring theme of static versus kinetic energy. Needless to say, ‘twas unique.

Interview went excellently, as, said he, did my short answers.

Okay. It’s clear I’m a wreck. Break it to me gently.

HI!!!!!!! It's Elena!!!!!! SO many cherubs are applying ED! I reaaalllly hope that at least most of us get in. I think they normally accept quite a few, so that's encouraging.

What a strange place to hear from you! I have my fingers superglued crossed for us. Did you apply to the school of communication?

And who else is ED besides Kate C., David H., Jake C., and myself?

It seems like all the cherubs but me are ED. Or a lot, anyway. Good luck!
--Karin

I've been coming on here for nearly a year now. :) Karin and I actually met on here before cherubs. Other EDers.. Hm.. Anya, Kaitlin, and Marisa are applying ED. During the summer Paul was planning to, but I haven't talked to him in a while and don't know if he did. I know there are several others, but I can't remember who.. I didn't know that Jake applied ED! That's great.

By the way, based on your first post, I think you have an excellent chance. Your essay sounds terribly interesting. I chose the same prompt and wrote about snorkeling. I also plan to study across schools.. I want to major in Theatre, but either minor, adjunct major, or double major in a science. There's a science in human culture adjunct major that particularly interests me. Anyways, to answer your question, I did apply to the School of Communication.

15 days! (Until December 13th when the decisions will most likely come out).

Hey all...those of you that were cherubs I say you are a near lock. A former cherub lives across the hall from me now and he tells me that all the cherubs he knows that applied last year got it. He said that he had less than stellar test scores and gpa for that matter...he is certain that is what got him again. Enjoy the wait, cause after its over you have 6 more months of high school...the anticipation is the best part...good luck everyone.

debaterocks-

You made my day! :) I've been meaning to ask a current NU student about that for a while now. Thanks a bunch.

I'm sure I could find this out if I did a little searching, but since I don't have time I'll ask here - which dorm are you in?

Another question that I'm sure I could easily find an answer to - does Shepard have its own dining hall? (Yes, I'm getting ahead of myself)

Thanks!

damn..about two weeks

Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 10 Days

I
Am
Dying

Don't the results come out the 12? sSUNDAY

Last year emails came out on the 13th.

Has anyone heard of anyone's counselor telling them whether they were in or out yet? It's so annoying when that happens.

I called to check and see if they had recieved both my teacher rec's and the admissions lady said she wasn't sure and she couldn't check because my file was being discussed in the other room as we spoke. Ahhhhh! They already have decided on me, I suppose.

Eight days.

hazelbites - That would scare me so much if I called them (or any other school for that matter) to find out that they were reading my file at that moment. I think that that experience would haunt the rest of my day (and probably the rest of the waiting period which is as bad enough as it is). I'm sorry that you had to go through it. Good luck though with your applicaton! Hopefully, you'll get good news in a few days. Unfortunately for me, I have a while to wait yet.

Yeah it definitely freaked me out. The part time committee was reading it, too... so I have no idea if that has any bearing (I doubt it...) but it made me feel cheated out of the "real-deal" admissions readers. Ha. I'm paranoid.

If they sent out replies ont he 13th last year--it was a Saturday. But didn't they only mail tham out last year--or did they send e-mails?

Do you think they'll e-mail by the 10th, 11th, 12th, or 13th? Make a guess.....

Do counselor's find out the decisions before we know? DOES MY COUNSELOR ALREADY KNOW!!!????

i think counselors only know if they have connections and a really good relationship with the school
u know what i mean if ur froma school that has a high matriculation to nw then ur counselor would probably know

I'm pretty positive they sent out emails last year. You can read the thread about waiting EDers.

My bet is Monday. But I wish it were Sunday, so I could enjoy my Saturday and still have a night to cry/celebrate before my Tuesday exams.

Monday at 5PM. I bet 10 fake dollars.

Hey, since the ivy boards are playing cool games, I say we play rock, paper, scissors and assert our intellectual inferiority.

ROCK

Paper.....

I hope it's Friday--any chance?

When you check on the applicant status site..it still says "we will notify you by"--then nothing...

ACK

It also still says for Fall 2004 on the top--they could at least update to let us know they are really there......

Scissors.

I win.
