If I'd like to stay in IL, what are my other options?
Because after typing all that I realize NU is way outta my grasp...

Your test scores are pretty great and your schedule is ambitious. GPA and EC’s aren’t great, but you’ve got a good chunk of volunteering AND two things that got your involved with NU, showing that you’ve seen a lot of it and are very interested. I’m not one of the tried and true here, but I’d say it’d be worth applying ED with some great essays.

For the EC’s, try pulling it out a bit more. Instead of ‘band’, put ‘First Chair Flute’ or whatever you happen to be. Instead of ‘sports’, list the specific sports and teams you’ve been on, maybe awards they won? Instead of ‘school journal’, put your specific role, same with ‘musical’, and which marathon you ran. It’s going to help gauge you a bit more, and whenever you’re filling out the common app, all of those things together in DETAIL - and all of those hours added up - is going to look at least a little better than you think.

I think you’re being too critical of yourself. My D, currently soph, had significantly weaker credentials and got in on a waiting list. Unless things have tightened up so much in two years, you seem to be in. You may want to check if you can use both Math 1 and 2 for the subject tests. There are some schools that will only take one math score.

NU is not totally out of your reach. You just need a really good application (in terms of presentation, I mean). It really does make a difference.
