hi i got assigned to a 6th floor single in balch. i hv heard that on the sixth floor there r some really small single rooms, so im kinda worried that i got one of those. can someone confirm whether this is true or not?
i originally applied for balch for the big rooms and if i get a small single i mite as well hv applied for a coed dorm =(

also does anyone know what services unit 2 has? does it hv the carol takon center or the laundry room etc

How do you know what unit you are in or what floor you are on? If the first 2 numbers to my room assignment are 52, does that mean I am on the 5th floor, or in unit 5? Can anyone tell me what the differences are between units, and if there are differences between rooms on different floors. I have also heard about smaller rooms on the top Balch floors. Thanks!

Thanks faustarp! Is the 5th floor in unit 2 ok? I hope it's not where there are only a few small rooms, which I heard Balch has on the upper floors! If anyone has any other 5th floor Unit 2 info, please pass it on! Thanks!

My daughter was on the fifth floor of Balch on the other side of the building and had a huge single. 150 square feet. The double she will be living in next year in a different dorm is only 26 square feet larger.

Marian, did your daughter like living in Balch? My daughter will be living there in the fall. 5th floor as well! She is a little concerned about an all girls' dorm, but happy about getting a single.

Since cornell email is down, I just logged in to the portal to check and comfirmed my contract and then they sent the actual email to my Gmail account.

She absolutely loved it because of the single, the sink, the beautiful building, the shorter-than-average walk to classes, and the convenience of being able to buy food at the Tatkon Center downstairs. As it happened, she didn't make many friends on her corridor because she didn't have much in common with the other people who lived there -- something that can happen in any dorm. But she had a friend in a nearby dorm who had wonderful neighbors and she ended up being absorbed into their social group.

If she could live in Balch for three more years, she would. Unfortunately, the only way to do that is to become an RA, which is not something that interests her.

She was practically in mourning when I picked her up at the end of the year. Leaving her Balch single, with the prospect of moving into a Cascadilla double next fall with a girl whom she only knows slightly, was very difficult!

Marian..im like your daughter. i didnt really become close with my floor, but i became really good friends with all of the girls in 32 since one of my bffs lived there so i was always in her room.

to eveyrone living in balch: its ok to not get along with the girls on your floor. that doesnt mean that you have to live up to the perceived "antisocial" balch stereotype and be a hermit...go and meet people on other floors, other dorms, etc. its okay if you dont click with them.
