My D never actually got a rejection letter that noted her audition. She got a strangely worded letter that offered her a chance to enroll and then reaudition, but never one that noted her audition, nor one rejecting her for the MT program.

It went along the lines of “you may or may not have auditioned, but we’d like to offer to have you enroll and reaudition.”

Wondered if this was the typical letter. My D did indeed audition, and all the other letters she received (both accept and reject) noted the fact of the audition.

Obviously, we drew the inference that she was rejected, but thought the letter strange.

I’m afraid I don’t know the answer to your question, but I do know that Andrea Sadler (who coordinates the program) started a thread on here (it’s two threads below this one on my screen) and will be happy to answer any questions you have.

One piece of info I do know is that Andrea discussed with us when we visited that Ball State offers a “Theatre Studies” major for those interested in something a little less intense than the BFA. She mentioned that those who are initially not accepted can start on this track and then reaudition for MT after a semester or two. (These students are basically taking parallel classes to the MT kids for the first couple of semesters, and therefore would not be “behind” should they be accepted late.)

Hope that helps!

Yep, that’s the major they mentioned in the letter. I think the author himself used to post here.

When I received my rejection letter, it didn’t out-right say that I was rejected. They said that I was invited to participate in the B.A. Theatre Arts program, and it was simply implied. Unless they tell you “You were accepted into so-and-so program”, you were probably denied.

Dear MSU dad,

I assume that the letter your daughter received is a letter we send inviting students to be a part of our Theatre Studies program. At Ball State, students who do not get into the BFA Acting or Musical Theatre Options are invited to be a Theatre Studies major. This major will allow students to take several core theatre classes and will also give them a chance to re-audition for the BFA Programs in November of the freshman year. Several students have gained admittance into the BFA Programs via the Theatre Studies major over the last several years.

I hope this info helps.
