has anyone here gotten into one of the bsmd programs (like the ones at brown, john hopkins, usc, etc.)
what does it take to get into one?

well, a lot of the ppl who have already gotten into the program dont actively comment on them, although a few are extremely helpful if you ask them questions. Im just an applicant, but I’ve received interview at 3/4 programs so far-umkc, miami, and NU. From what I can tell, there is a baseline requirement for getting good grades, good rank, and good sat score (2250 ish plus) that is the minimum. For me, my teacher recs really helped im guessing as well. EC’s and a demonstrated interest in SOMETHING is really important. Look, in terms of activities, this ranges from debate to research to student council. Have leadership and community service but also had medical activities like research, shadowing, med explorers. Aside from a demonstrated interest in medicine, essays are important to convey your passion. Some people ive talked to (like celery) say that no essays truly stand out, just get them to the point where your on a level playing field and maybe you’ll receive an interview. A lot of it is luck and how your present yourself. 8yearman received interviews at all the places he applied to so far (4/4), and I think ive done relatively well, so its not a total “crapshoot” as MANY people have stated in the past. Obviously having essays and qualifications will ensure at least a few interviews. good luck

Thank you! :)

johns hopkins doesn’t have a ba/md program
brown plme and usc bs/md are among the most prestigious and hardest programs to get into, there are threads regarding both of these programs on CC

need to take most rigorous courses possible
need to be an involved students with significant extra-curricular activities and leadership positions
need to have strong medically/science related experience other than just hospital volunteering i.e. shadowing, EMT experience, research experience, etc.
