Bank Manager

Hey guys:

Just trying to get some of your opinions.

Basically I am in the career exploration phase right.

One of the careers I have looked at would be financial management and one of the jobs that interests me is a branch manager at a larger bank. Something such as Chase, Bank of America, etc. Nothing real high up or anything. Just the #1 guy at a commercial bank branch.

I was trying to see if anybody had experience in this and if so if they could give me some info on it.

My research has given me very different results. Some places I have seen $45,000 base for first year branch managers and on other places I have seen $60,000. Obviously I know it is all about sales which can ultimately give you another $10 K+ depending on how well.

I am just trying to see how stressful a job it is, hours, and just the overall satisfaction. My dad was a branch manager at a mid-sized bank in Ohio and he worked a lot of hours (about 60) but he was also a loan officer there.

I am currently a bank teller at Chase (have been for 6 months) and like it and I can see myself doing this until I graduate so it it a safe assumption that when I got a degree I could be bumped up to a branch manager somewhere else?

Any info would be great.

You can also consider being one of the growing number of personal bankers commercial banks have a growing number of. I know the one I work with makes more than $60K and he’s a young engineering grad of a top 40 college.

Banks assign them to their top 10% of customers and they become the interface between you and the bank. They handle your day to day banking business–sending wires, getting your kid a credit card, setting up CD’s, arranging loans and trying to convince you to use the bank’s investment services.

They get incentives on top of pay, my guy seems to be on a junket to Hawaii whenever I call

bump bump bump
