Nope, sorry nothing from Jersey.

Anyone else here about interviews? Congrats to CultureChic, I hope the interview went well.

Since the large majority of college decisions were released yesterday (as a completely unrelated side note, why release them on April Fools’ Day???), congrats to everyone on your acceptances, waitlists (yes, I think those deserve congrats as well), and such. And of course, best of luck for this!

Ahh, I’m so excited, I don’t know how they expect us to wait two more months! =)

I’m from East Bay/Oakland, CA and nothing yet.

Seems like last year, the first decisions were recieved late April. Hoping:)

Bay Area (I know what a curse right), CA.

Totally heard nothing. I only had down about 300 hours or so, I spent alot of time on my essays though.

Also a TASP rejectee ): Can’t say I dare have any hopes since TASP rejections crushed my confidence and probably alot of people from my area applied.

@ThatOnePianist - I’m from the Bay too (btw, thanks for helping me on my chance thread!). But if you’re from SJ, then you’re most likely in the Silicon Valley market, right?

Anyways I wish you the best (: and I hope you get it from your market!

Where my people at??? EastBay/Oakland stand up!

Ughh, are you serious? I was accepted to a month-long summer volunteer program, and I can jump through the hoops but still pull out last minute (no qualms doing so since they have a waitlist) if I get accepted to BoA.

If I don’t get any other summer opportunities, I’ll have to attend the community service thing (it’s something of a backup), but I need to get my airplane tix as early as possible so the prices aren’t astronomical - and I’m not sure if that’s doable if I have to hold out until the end of May to get results for BoA.

Yeah it sounds like last year most people heard if they were in by late April/early May, and the people who didn’t get in were the ones who had to wait until the end of May. They probably do that in case people decline, they still have time to notify other people.

But hopefully we will all hear in a couple weeks :)

@ThatOnePianist
I’m from the Bay too! Silicon Valley. Joy of asdfasdf-ing joys.

I got rejected from LEAD (but then again, I’m Asian. Lovely!), so I’m a bit ehh about this one. I really hope I get in though. Crossing my fingers!

@ Jenni & Cupcake : Haha I really didn’t do anything. Being an Asian in the Bay Area must be like the worst thing ever. Over competition and everyone is like supersmart to the point of insanity. (To prove the point my school has like 13 MIT acceptances, 4 Harvards, 5 Stanfords, 5UPenns, and some crazy people who got accepted to all the ivy leagues. On another note 3 people in my APUSH class have 2400s and some guy with a 2390 is always complaining about how he fails at life. Seriously, we should move to like Ohio or something.)

Haha I bet I’m not going to get in from this Market. 5 People? I bet like 90 applied my goodness I hate competition around here.

._. Asian people have the most competition and limited legacy. (And scary parents if I may add :x)

If all goes wrong I have backup plans >.< but I’m one of those fail unstereotypical Asians without a 4.0 and like 2400 Gpa, I guess the only thing that makes me stand out are ECs ._. I think my parents hate me lol

@ThatOnePianist LOL dude. I’m like, the biggest fail Asian ever. I agree with you when you say that we live in a crazy area - that’s why I wanna get out of here for college, I want to see other places and ■■■■ of this insanely competitive bubble of Asians. I don’t really even get along with Asians, which is sad (and depressing for my parents). My parents aren’t that scary nor strict compared to the others out there…but yeah Haha. I digress. Only one other kid (Indian. Why am I not surprised?) from my school applied to this, and he BS’d his ENTIRE application (saying how he helped a kid with Down Syndrome at Outdoor Ed camp)…including his recs. So if he gets accepted ASIFHHDFLAKSDKG. I’ll be soooper mad.

(Proof of my fail = http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/894712-asian-painfully-banal-craptastic-junior-year-grades-do-i-still-have-chance-2.html)

At least you have ECs, I don’t think my ECs are all too great, though I love doing them. While my fellow peers are breathing and living the way of the blue bible and Barrons, I breathe and live the way of clubs and school and city matters…

Btw, do you go to Lynbrook HS in Cupertino? LOL because my mom the other day was saying how there were 13 MIT acceptances at that school and “why can’t you be more like them?!” Sheesh .__.

I’m from the Bay Area as well. I forgot whether I applied to the Oakland or the SF market though. Dang it.

OMG, my friend goes to Lynbrook and she got into MIT.
Small world, the bay area.

@Gillatorby it depends on where you live. If you live in the North Bay, you’re most likely in the SF market. If you live in the South Bay, you’re most likely in the Silicon Valley market. If you live in the East Bay (like me!) then you’re in the East Bay market.

@ThatOnePianist/Jenni

ME TOO. I’m one of those Asians that – God forbid! – doesn’t have an impeccable academic record/laudable standardized testing scores. Decent, but stellar? Nah.

I don’t think my ECs are that great either. Ugh. Club leadership here and there. Not many awards. Mediocre grades, etc etc. I’m always drowning in mediocrity and I hate it SO insanely much! Parents are pretty much ok with it, but it’s worse since I’m not. Oops!

But yeah, I really really hope I get in; I spent a lot of time doing the app!

OH and Jenni! I know another one of those people (Yes, also Indian. Oh dear!) who did that with her app for something or other. And got in. Sigh, people these days!

And Pianist. Moving to Ohio? Count me in!

@Gillatorby YES someone from my area! You applied for BoA, right?

@ Gillatorby, Cupcake, Jenn

Bay area FTW!

Yeah I go to Lynbrook lol. How did you guys guess?? or did I say I go to LHS already xD?
Anyways yeah, we have a phenomenal senior class this year, and we’re like what #97 best high school in the nation (Yeah there are schools that rank higher then us in the area but have less people going to top schools…weird huh). Our crazy class of '10 :x man it would take tons of effort for '11 to live that on.

It’s a school full of stress and limited Aps ._. The only AP we can take before junior year is AP Comp Sci or Chinese (since everyone is Asian). And plus it’s like a red brick building. Our school looks like some hobo poor school compared to all the other schools around here xD

The only conversations we ever have is about a) SATS b)GPA c)Colleges d)Extracurriculars e) Fighting for leadership positions to look good for colleges f) How my TI-89 is better than your TI-89, my SAT book is more worn out than your SAT book, my test scores > Your test scores, The stuff that drives people insane. Our lunchtimes are pronounced “library time” and “study time” for many. In addition we also have evil teachers who do nothing but laugh at you when you get a 89.9% in a class and refuse to show you your grade until she slaps down that B on your head.

Really, too much pressure here. To Illustrate my point, when I went to ask my guidance councilor for a letter of rec, she was currently writing a letter of rec for another person doing BoA.

I don’t like my grades and I feel VERY mediocre in my school especially with all the overachieving guaranteed to Harvard people in my school. I feel positively dumb and my parents constantly scream at me about it xD. They have high, high expectations (They expect me to get into CAL and UCLA or some ivy league, not going to happen). But that’s just your stereotypical Asian parents for an unstereotypical Asian Child Doesn’t work out great lol.

I need to get out of California for a few years. I swear all this competition has driven me insane, I need to get away to some private college in the east or something >.<

BoA should accept more people from our area ._. It’s so unfair.

YUP! I’m very nervous though, as you guys said, competition is stiff! And my application was rushed
May 22nd is so far from now! Ridiculous. I’m sooo anxious. Thankfully, I have some back-ups :)

wow i didnt realize there were so many applicants from the bay…i’d be another one. hello guys(:

@thatonepianist
I’ve actually heard from some of my friends that Lynbrook’s fairly easy? I’m not sure, but my school’s like crazy competitive and we have kids regularly skipping senior year to attend MIT, kids in the us physics team, etc. Makes me feel a lil dumb sometimes ):

@ Anyone who’s from the Bay Area

@That: I guessed you were from Lynbrook since the 13 MIT acceptances already sort of gave it away! I and this other kid are the only ones who applied for BoA at our school, but since our school is having its first grad class this year, there aren’t a lot of people to begin with Haha. I’m sure the rest of the East Bay has like 7540874385 applicants.

@typhical: Your friends must be super smart, then. Lol. Are you from the North/South/East Bay?
