So I did this last year (2010), and it was amazing. One of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had. It’s a little late here in London, so I won’t give you a run-down of it right now, but go ahead and PM me, or ask on this board (I’ll re-visit) to ask whatever you want. Also, I posted a video on youtube of the advertising thing they made of 2010 Student Leaders.

Hey beelondon! I just had some questions regarding the program. :)

Anyway, when do the internships start and end? Because school for me ends on the first week of June, and I unfortunately have finals that same week.

Also, how lenient were your supervisors? My one friend who did this said that her supervisor was very relaxed on if she had other plans and whatnot. I’m applying for another summer program that’s only one week long, so it might interfere with my internship.

The start and end of internships differ. My case is a little different as I’m from the London, UK market, and we all worked together in an office (Business in the Community - they’ve hosted all 5 London interns for the past 3 years, in case anyone’s from London!). So we were all in quite a professional environment, but we were given 3-4 days off (which we were encouraged to take!).

If you have a week-long commitment elsewhere then you’ll probably have to talk to the coordinator at your host organisation. I know that the arrangement with us was that if we needed more time than holiday leave gave us we had to make the hours up elsewhere, by working late or whatever. Don’t assume you’ll get the week off, but I’d say it’s fairly likely they’ll work something out for you. Thing is, if you’re offered the internship, then they want you, so they’ll try to work around you. Just make sure that the week you need off doesn’t coincide with the week in D.C.!

Internships last for 8 weeks (1 week is in D.C. - which you’re paid for btw!), and in America they tend to start mid-June and end in mid-August. Again, London’s a little different, so I’m not entirely sure, but an awful lot of the Americans worked at organisations on their own, or in pairs - not all together as it is in London. With that said, I’d assume you have some say in the dates, but you get 8 week holidays anyway right? So I think it takes up those 8 weeks.

My supervisor wanted RESULTS! (We were in an office but he was very understanding if I had other commitments. They all are. The entire programme is run by very friendly, compromising people :)

If I go to high school in Orange county does that mean I am applying for the Orange county market? Because over summer I am moving to the Oakland/East Bay Area. What should I do?

Reading past posts indicates that students selected for the program were assigned to a nonprofit organization chosen by Bank of America. The 2011 application seems to be changed from that of past years, as it asks for the EIN of a particular nonprofit, from which I infer that the applicant chooses the nonprofit organization. I could find no information on the official website about this.

Does anyone have insight about this? Did applications for previous years ask for EINs?

I thought of a possible explanation. Perhaps the EINs are included on the application forms because BoA uses the same form for students who are applying to the student leaders program as for nonprofits who are applying for funding.

internshipking–the summer program described in this thread is not for finance internships. It is for internships with nonprofit organizations for students who are interested in leadership and public service.

I did=D. Well…I didn’t specify the market but the lady who called me for an interview talked about me being in the IE…sooo yeah… I guess I applied for the IE market. Did you get an interview yet?? Mine was due on Jan.14. How come everyone else turned it in today?

Hey so I called the information number for the Bank of America Student Leaders program and they said (at least for the Seattle market) that applicants would be notified by a letter in the mail hopefully by April 15th, and that 3 applicants would be chosen.
