How do you know you were rejected? Did you receive a call? Maybe you just haven’t been notified yet…

ilovedwight>>> this is a very competitive program, and I’m sure there’s a lot of very qualified people that just get edged out by someone else. What market are you in…did you get a call or mail that said you were rejected?

In D’s case, she has an extremely wide variety (and a lot of) of community service. She helped establish a new club at her school, that completely focuses on getting students to get involved in social activism, giving back to the community, and it addressing everything from local issues (both social and enviironmental) to worldwide issues (they just had an Art sale with the proceeds being used for a group that provides aid to Darfur. She’s also an officer in a bunch of clubs at school (including president of Spanish club). I don’t remember what else was part of the application (don’t think I ever saw it), but if grades matter, she’s got a high GPA, and her recommendation was likely awesome.

Just wondering… to those who are have recently logged into their account, are you still able to check your application and see that 5000 amount?

Before, I saw all of that, but now, I don’t see anything any more. All it says is :

Once completed, all applications created online are immediately submitted to Bank of America.

My name isn’t even there anymore…

I probably got rejected :(

^ its like that for everyone.

my creds aren’t really all that great, i’ve done a bunch of community service, did cross country and tennis, editor of the school’s literary magazine, writer for the school paper, and i’ve made a few films and won a couple of awards in film festivals. i think being a writer definitely helped my application, and also my english teacher wrote a very good letter for me.

Really?

But it wasn’t like that at all before… I was able to click on my name to see what I wrote on my app and the fax of the recommendation too.

yeah same but i just checked when you said that and it is as you described

ilovedwight
I’m sure that you were perfectly qualified for this program; it’s just that the limit of 5 people per region is ridiculously competitive.
But, out of curiosity, what was your app like?
How did they notify you that you were rejected?
What market are you form?

Yeah, don’t worry. I got rejected from it last year, my market manager actually commented that they remembered me last year and were impressed that I reapplied again this year.

So, if you’re rejected this year don’t let that deter you from reapplying (most of the questions were the same as last year as well, I just updated and polished up my responses.)

My online application still allows me to view my submitted materials, but I don’t think anyone from my region has been notified.

what region are you from?

Hampton Roads, Virginia

I can see my stuff again. I guess they were just reviewing it yesterday?

I’m from the Los Angeles region btw.

D got her info packet in the mail (it is sent from the local Bank of America contact). Orientation meeting with local interns and their parents is going to be May 26. It doesn’t have the start/end dates (just says soon after school is over, which here is June 12).
Trip to DC is July 19-24… Local non-profit groups and assignments will be announced at orientation meeting. 35 hr workweek, $10 per hour (AND they pay you for the week you go to DC, as well as pay your travel there, hotel, and 3 meals/day)! Good luck to all who are still waiting to hear. It seems like the vast majority of markets have not announced who will be in the program yet.

so is the pay uniform across the markets?
astromom said her market offered 10$/hr
my market offered flat pay of 5k
are any other markets different? (in other words, let’s figure out which BoA region is the most generous/stingiest)

Well based on the Application Amount, my market (Vegas) is offering $5,000. However, I am assuming that this includes the trip to DC. I could be wrong, but I think they are going to adjust the hourly pay based on the cost of the travel expenses. That said, people on the West Coast will receive less “take home” pay (money not used for travel). Basically, each person applied for a $5,000 “grant” from BOA, the DC trip expenses are deducted from this, and then the non-profit receives the remaining balance to pay the intern. Again, I am probably totally wrong - but this is the conclusion I reach based on extremely limited information.

Does anyone know if we are paid throughout the internship, or is it just one lump sum at the end? I would assume that it would be a weekly/bi-weekly check for those who are taking this as a summer job, rather than a scholarship.

My market manager said that you’re paid an hourly wage. I think it makes sense, because what if an intern has other obligations and has to miss work for a day or two? They shouldn’t get paid the same amount as another intern who has worked everyday they were suppose to.

That’s exciting.
My market still hasn’t notified me whether or not I got accepted or not yet.

hmmm, i wouldn’t be happy if they deducted money for the trip. my representative didn’t tell me that part. the rep said that it’s a flat $5,000 with an “all expense paid” trip to DC. i mean a week in DC with flight, hotel, food, etc would be quite expensive (probably $2000). Close Ups regular summer academy is 1200$, but that doesn’t include airfare. also, only two kids are in each hotel room while from my familiarity with CloseUp, NYLC, et al, it’s usually 4 per room.
so i mean if my market took away that sum from me, it’s not really an “all expense paid week”

any other markets have info?

I figured that the pay would be hourly for the same reason rockerguy brought up. However, I have a prior commitment and my rep. said that I will probably have to make up the time somehow (although it depends on the BGCA club I will be working at). So this got me wondering, wouldn’t it be on me if I didn’t get the hours and, therefore, the pay? That’s what led me to wonder if it was a lump sum (or maybe a set weekly amount for a certain number of hours) rather than hourly pay. I completely understand they want the accepted interns to follow through, so perhaps this is why they want me to make up the time.

I really wish I would hear something from my market soon!

yeah, BoA is being really sketch
like their packet that comes in the mail didn’t even have any markings on the envelope. i was half thinking it was some sort of anthrax swine flu hybrid biochemical attack until i warily opened it up.

and yeah, hourly would make sense, but at the same time they seem set that you work when they tell you to and aren’t too flexible about it. i’m not sure, but i guess the orientations will clear things up. i’ll be sure to update for whoevr wants to know, but it’ll be another week and a half
