My son got the email too. He was accepted into honors and was notified about Gemstone last night. No other communication before today’s email about the Banneker/key interview.

I got this email as well and I was only accepted to the Scholars Program. No letter in the mail. An explanation would be great.

i wish with ALL my heart that this could be true, but it just doesn’t make any sense. why would they send this email to people who aren’t in honors? and why would they send an email when they say explicitly that only those who received the letter are semifinalists? it could be that the letters got lost or something, but it’s highly improbable that they got lost for so many people. it was a harsh blow the first time, and this just makes it even harder, but at this point it just seems like an error on their part.

Is everyone else emailing this Elizabeth Rogers person? Is there any way we can find out tonight and not have to wait until tomorrow to find out if it is real?

Fun while it lasted. I was so proud of myself for like 5 whole minutes, so it was almost worth it.

I think that it may be correct and not an error. This is just a gut feel. I guess I think if by now they have not send an email rescinding the first email, it is because the first letter was correct.

Does anyone know anybody else who applied to UMD, but did not get this email? Obviously if we can’t find anyone that did not get this email then it stands to reason that this was a mistake. Still though, I do think it could be true. My son did not get into honors, but has strong SAT scores and I think wrote a strong and unique essay. (Although I suppose everyone thinks their kid wrote a strong essay).

I am going to email my son’s guidance counselor. He seems to know everything. I’ll post whatever he says when he gets back to me.

I am sure this was a glitch in the system. It makes no sense at all as they even state on the website that all Banneker Key semifinalist are offered entrance to the Honors program, and I was not. Also, I do not think they sent out an email rescinding the email as it was sent out at 4:30 while the office closes then.

My heart is going to be broken if this is a glitch…

My S got one as well - College Park Scholar, not Honors. The email doesn’t indicate a date, nor does it display any personal information, such as his name or ID #. Obviously it is meant as a mass-mailing with parking instructions to those who have already been notified they were selected as Bannecker/Key semifinalists. Would’ve been nice, but doesn’t make sense as an actual selection letter.

Hey all, I’m a current B/K student at UMD. One of my friends received this email as well, so I directed him to call Katherine Russell, the coordinator of the scholarship.

She was still in her office at the time, and informed him that the emails had accidentally been sent to the wrong list of students.

I’m not really sure why they haven’t sent out a correction yet, but it does seem to be a mistake.

Wow – really? That is kind of ****ty. Mistakes happen and of course there is nothing one can do about that, but send a follow up email – stay late. Fix the problem so people do not get their hopes up for no reason.

That is just plain cruel. Anyone think we will be compensated?

This is horrible news! My excitement lasted all of 20 minutes. I would hope that they are sending out a correction email.

My son got the same email. He was accepted, but never got a letter about B/K. I called and sent an email, but I’m just assuming the email to son was sent in error.

My son got the email as well, he immediately told me it was incorrect though. Bummer!

where is the correction email?

Same thing, but I’m in the Honors College. Weird part is that it doesn’t have my name in the email, so it could be incorrect.

Is everyone who got it in Honors/Scholars? They might’ve just sent it to all of us in those programs.

This is most definitely a glitch- the letters were sent out in the beginning of February. They must have messed up. If it is a mistake, that is pretty horrible and I hope they compensate in some way (or at least send out a correction email!).

How about full tuition for all?!
