Barack Obama Went to Harvard

obviously no one here is a fan of the man Mr. David Chapelle, who states that no one wants to be the first black president, because they will most certainly be assassinated....unless of course, they have a mexican vice-prez

You gotta admit that his show is hilarious...especially the skits on white supremacists. I never quite got the Rick James persona tho...

But Senetor Obama is the Democratic golden-boy right now... he and other dems need to regroup and organize . It is extremly dishearting to see the "sea of red" states in the US right now.

I think if O'Bama ran it would be the same break down as it was with Bush/Kerry unless he adopted a moderate democrat from the south as his vice.. maybe put a splash of blue in that sea of red.

Exactly
The Dems have stirked out w/ NE liberals (Mondale,Dukakis,Kerry) so I forsee a return southern democrats ( anti-abortion, pro-death penaly) less they risk the future of the party.

i disagree with mhawk's analysis.

if you look at the breakdown of voting in Ill you will find that Obama managed to pick up votes from rural voters and traditionally "white" suburbans (who usually vote for Republican candidates). many political pundits and dem insiders are treating him as the golden boy b/c he has an uncanny ability to connect with common people. that is the distinction i draw with kerry. kerry had this painted picture of a rich, aristocratic, aloof, and too high society for the typical rural voter who goes to Wal Mart, watches Nascar, and eats once a week at a diner. its the disconnection with many Americans that Kerry I think never overcame. Dems are really happy about Obama b/c he has this uncanny ability (despite being incredibly smart) to CONNECT with voters of all types.

this is what has the dems hopes up.

seven nights has it right

but one thing that coudl be a little bit misleading...obama ran against an extremeist right-wing candidate, which is probably why he got some of the votes that he did in the rural areas

still, obama is a remarkable communicator, he has this populist streak about him thats refreshing...but its not affected liek that of john edwards

lol btw alan keyes made tshirts for his campaign reading:

"OBAMA YO MAMA"

i believe we can all tell alan keyes to barack our collective obamas lol

keyes was the candidate bc the republicans couldnt find anybody else. and they had to move him from another state so he could at the very least be eligible. they dried to get some big hot shot football player (declined), Ryan (embroiled in a sex scandal), and another guy whom Ryan beat out in the Republican primaries.

it was a tale of unfortunate luck for the republicans. and importing a candidate from another state certainly didnt help their odds.

lol yah jack ryan what a douche trying to force his wife to go to sex clubs with him....psshhh

anyways yeah we can all agree on the leetness of obama

OBAMA 08 REPRAZENT

Go Obama GO!!
Tanzanian representing EA.

i thought obama was pretty clear about not wanting to run for president?

anyway, i also love the guy to death =)

I think it's funny how people obsess more about Obama's "blackness" than they do his actual political record. Having met the man, though, he's genuinely a nice guy.

I would have to say that getting to know him is very good, you are meeting a rising star

If there's any rising starts here, it's The Governator.

Not only is he EVIL, but he's also one heck of a liar...

being from the south, i really dont think that many southern white people would vote for a black person...

Virginia elected the nation's first (and only) Black governor (a Democrat by the way).

New York and Illinois were unable to elect Black candidates and they are far more liberal than the South.

Give your native region a bit more credit.

haha i live THE SOUTH-virginia hardly counts. what also needs to be taken into consideration is competition. i will tell you right now that where i come from-the deep south-, white people would NOT elect a black person. we had a very smart black yale grad run here in georgia for a senate seat last election-percentage wise, she won only a little more of the vote than the percentage of black voters. if you give southerners a white conservative male against obama, they would have even less of a reason to vote for him

also, since reconstruction there have been a total of 3 black senators-2 from illinois and 1 from massachusetts. none from the south.

Yeah...but Majette is a bad example.

She had virtually no statewide ties, and she was a first-term congressional back-bencher.

Compared to Johnny Isakson who is probably the godfather to half of the children of all the elected officials in Georgia.

She had no chance, and she had NO support from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

There is no prototype campaign for a competitive Black Senate Candidate yet. If Harold Ford runs in Tennessee, then we can study his campaign in the future.

i hope to God i am wrong, but i dont think i am. harold ford has only been elected by a largely black constituency. we shall see. but if you give white southern voters the choice between a conservative white male and a less conservative black male, do you really think they would vote for the black one?

His district is 60% black...but he outperformed the Kerry campaign by 20 percentage points. Give the man some credit. He could do it, if he has the right people working for him.

"but if you give white southern voters the choice between a conservative white male and a less conservative black male, do you really think they would vote for the black one?"

Yes because they already have. Virginia does count as the South (I'm sorry) and L.Douglas Wilder serves as an example that Black Democrats can win in the South
