Nice thread. :)

I first heard of Barack Obama in eigth grade when my teacher told us to look for that guy, bc he could become president. I first thought he was muslim and so I figured he was not going to win.

Yay Mrs. Bendschiendter for foreshadowing four years earlier.

it's interesting to see that about 5 years ago people were speculating about Obama for president, and now it's actually happened

go obama!

Anyone know what his grades were? Ever read the articles he wrote as president of the Law Review? Member of the Law Review? No?

We have a pretty good idea of what his grades were -- he graduated in the top 10% of his Harvard Law class in terms of GPA. Not that it matters any more.

Good job hunting up this old thread. Really interesting stuff!

"Anyone know what his grades were?"

He was magna cum laude, wasn't he (so a 3.5 to a 3.85 GPA)?

At Columbia, right?

Reading the rest of this thread sent chills down my spine. Almost brought a tear to my eye, actually. Look what family now calls 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue home.

The America of legend, the America that inspires people worldwide to abandon their homes and set sail for the New World, the America where hopes and dreams dare to collide with reality and incinerate whatever effete dogmas stand in their way- is back.

And I think our 2008 Presidential election may have been the most widely followed and celebrated election in the history of human civilization. As far as I know, its worldwide magnitude was unprecedented. Quite an accomplishment for Mr. Obama, his staff, and our nation. What an amazing thing to be a part of!

wow I love reading the first few posts on this from 2004! It's like watching history happen

"At Columbia, right?"

he went to occidental college first, and then he transferred to columbia to finish up his undergraduate degree; then he went to harvard law school

I voted for McCain.

dude, i don't have anything against mac but he has some ugly-ass teeth. i mean no offense, he's a true g -- fought in nam, senator for years, nice guy, hot wife (for his age), etc. -- but those teeth, man. they are as yellow as -- i don't even know. but i guess that was mean to bring up, but i mean, i'm just tossing that out there.

but dude -- by all means the best part of the inauguration:

"where black won't have to give back. where brown can stick around. where yellow can be mellow. where the red man can get ahead, man. and where white can do what is right."

easily, the most epic moment of the day.

I have a problem with the Reverend Lowry for saying that.

The election of Barack Obama in itself does not invalidate real or perceived racism.

Stating things in absolute terms with absolute labels creates absolute generalizations. (No matter how cleverly they may rhyme.....Big ups for 'red man, get ahead, man.'

If there is a decision between a candidate of race A(party X), and of race B(party Y), and race A is politically dominant and race B is politically disenfranchised, the election of either A or B.

Yes, country is not racist because they voted for the candidate of race B

or

Ugh, country is racist because they voted for the candidate of race A

Because the inherent assumption is that Party X is a load of bollocks, and Party Y is the best thing since sliced bread and the only factor that could induce a vote otherwise would be the races of the candidates.

Either way, I put Country First, and I am 100% confident in the abilities of our new President.

I have problems only with his oratory/personality (at times) and his non interventionist views on foreign policy.

Other than that, I'm down.

USA! USA! USA!

dude -- "red man, get ahead, man." with all race issues aside, is an epic masterpice of rhyme.

but as for race politics -- i feel your later paragraphs hit at why barry-o won. even if hillary rodham were to come out on top (or say a surprise white guy who is a g; case in point: not john edwards) the dems would still triumph due to -- not the failed policies of republicans -- but some failed policies of the last administration.

as for johnny eds, he's just a really sad man. a really, really sad man.

Yeahhhhh, did you see the broad he cheated on his wife with?

I mean....I would at least go for someone reasonably pretty...

this is true. but i must say she was a little more attractive that monica.

....

I guess I'm the only Hillary fangirl? Heh. Whatever, I adore her. =D

I like her because of her competence.

I can't say much for her demeanor......I dunno...It's kind of grating....

Oh actually, I don't mean to REALLY pick on her, but the video editing on this is fantastic.

YouTube - Hillary WASN'T LYING! Bosnia gunfire footage discovered...

hey guys, some of the recent posters need to cut out this "Obama as messiah" talk- he ran a shrewd race on his biography alone- and if you read Jerome Corsi's book- unfortunately Obama Sr. was a drunk and a polygamist (tragic)... Obama Jr. is a smart guy- well-read and well-informed- but it is far from obvious that he will be able to do anything about the financial crisis or the other pressing issues of the day.

Btw, I go to Columbia and the hysteria and Obamania on campus has reached epic proportions- matched in intensity only by a visceral, irrational hatred of President Bush.
