Barnard Admit Rate Lowest Ever

I graduated from Barnard in 1996 and I noticed very little difference between Barnard and Columbia. I was a rower–for the Columbia team, as the sports teams are all through the Columbia name. I had a lot of friends at Columbia and took most of my classes on the other side of Broadway. My senior year I lived in a Columbia dorm. Also, my diploma is from Columbia.

Frankly, I think Barnard has the best of both worlds. One can choose to either stay mostly at Barnard and receive an education that focuses on women, or one can become more involved in the coed lifestyle. While Columbia has the Core Curriculum, I had to write a 60-page dissertation in order to graduate (I was a political science major). As far as the caliber of student, I noticed little difference (although Columbia is more well known, hence it receives more applications).

When it comes down to it, both CC and BC are excellent schools. I never noticed competition or poor feelings on either side. Had I gone to CC, I don’t think my college experience would have been all that different, frankly. Barnard women are worldly, bright and sophisticated…just like their counterparts at Columbia College.

give it a rest konradh, go do something productive.
