Barnard Class of '20 Discussion

Good luck everyone!

@willsister1 @b3happy wait guys we must be friends. Harry Potter is my everything and was one of the main subjects in many of my supplements!

Also eeekkk email was sent out today! I freaked out because I just saw the word “delighted” and thought I got accepted (wishful thinking?).

@teaqueen @b3happy I wrote an essay about Harry Potter for every single school I applied to :D. My Hofstra letter even came with a sticky note that said “This might not be Hogwarts, but we still hope you make us home!” It was so cute. I talk about Harry Potter any opportunity I get

Love reading what you guys wrote about for your supplements - you all seem like such rad & interesting people :slight_smile: For my woman of history, I wrote about Zelda Fitzgerald and how she inspires me as an artist (felt pretty good about this one - I was playing Daisy Buchanan in the Great Gatsby at the time so I felt pretty connected to Zelda, haha). My majoring in unafraid was about an experience I had performing where in really committing myself to the material, I had to confront things that were difficult for me and open myself up emotionally. I remember feeling less confident in that one, but it’s been a while. My common app essay fits pretty well for Barnard, I wrote it about me looking out an upper story window in New York City and seeing all the life and the people etc and wanting to be a part of it, and tied it into some stuff about writing and performing.

I got the email from asmissions too - looks like we’ll be hearing back pretty soon! Yikes. I’m so anxious.

What is everyone’s intended major? I’m definitely thinking English (I love to write!) and minor in theater or music.

Hi guys!
I’m new to this thread. I’m super nervous now that they let us know decisions will be released sometime this week. Good luck to you all, I hope we all hear good news!

My woman in history essay was a meeting with Lucy the Audtralopithecus (can you tell I’m an anthropology major??).
I wrote about turning down a professional play that I felt compelled to do in order to do a non-paying one for my majoring in unafraid essay. My Why Barnard was pretty straightforward, I just connect anthropology with theatre and talked about their internship program with the American Museum of Natural History. My common app essay connected the way Alexander Hamilton and one of my all-time favorite stage roles think, and how they influenced me in changing the way I view the world during my junior year.

@1077mmm Exact same for me, actually! I’ve heard really good things about writing/English stuff at Barnard.

@alessia1112 Welcome to the thread!

@charmandquark I’m from SoCal! I’m looking forward to hopefully getting to explore New York (and it’s weather!)

I’ve been creeping this thread for a while, so with decisions coming out this week I thought I should finally join the discussion! My name is Victoria and I am from a very small town in Oklahoma. I love Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, etc. so I’m always up to chat about that! I’m looking to major in Political Science. I’m excited to get to know such wonderful and intelligent young women as we embark on this journey together. Best of luck to everyone!

Im thinking computer science :wink:

@autumnnighthawks Same! I’ve always heard of this mysterious thing East coaster’s call seasons, as well as this thing that falls from the sky called snow?? So we’ll see how that goes… :slight_smile:

@VM0123 Dude welcome! If I don’t end up majoring in Physics/Math, I might end up in Poli Sci–my 2nd career goal is to work in politics.

@charmandquark You are always so welcoming to the new people to the thread! I really hope you get into Barnard! :slight_smile:

For my woman in history supplement, I wrote about Ophelia from Hamlet. It was one of my favorite essays I’ve ever written (even though I know everyone says that about every supplement lol). I just hope my essays were good enough to get in [-O<

@autumnnighthawks Awww thank you! I wish you the best of luck into getting into Barnard as well. :smiley:

@mech423 Oooohhh, I’m about to read Hamlet in Literature–how is it?

Alright, so guys, be honest…

How many of you guys pronounce Barnard wrong/6 different ways? xD

@charmandquark
That’s awesome! People in my area aren’t really into politics so it’s nice when I finally get to meet some people that are!

People that know I am considering Barnard frequently accidentally call it ‘Barnyard’, but I don’t really know how that get that LOL

Hi guys! So I’m - like the rest of you - in love with Barnard! For peace of mind, would anyone like to read my essays?! :^))

Ah! I’m so nervous, and feel like they are really bad haha! :^))
