Barnard Class of 2025 — Decision Date: Mar 31

I am applying RD since I learned about Barnard a week before the ED deadline :sob: but I would’ve applied ED if I could’ve! What about you?

I applied ED and got admitted yesterday, but no one around me knew if there were other Chinese students that got in. (I know there must be others haha, so I’m super curious and excited!)

Don’t worry! I think over 50% of Barnard’s acceptance letters are sent out in RD round. You can do this!

Result: Accepted!
GPA (UW/W): My school is weird and we have unweighted with bonus points (not the same as weighted) so I had a 4.075
Rank (if you have): N/A
SAT/ACT (superscore): N/A (never got to take)
APs + Scores: AP Euro (5), APUSH (5), AP Lang (4), APES (4)

ECs:

  • Deputy Director of well known GVP organization for my state
  • Captain/Board Member of Mock Trial Team
  • Fellow/Shift Leader at a Democratic Organization that does campaign work for congressional and presidential campaigns
  • Youth and Government
  • Organizer w/ Youth Climate Strike insert my city
  • Secretary of Girls Learn International Club
  • Democratic Socialists of America Club
  • Co-President Trader Joe’s Club
  • Gender Equity Alliance Club
  • Organizer w/ Sunrise Movement

Did you apply for FA?: Yes

Rate Rec Letters:

  • 9/10 My AP Euro teacher who really liked me and I know really cares about recs, only downfall was that I had him 10th grade which they usually don’t allow.
  • 10/10 My AP English Lang teacher who also really liked me, I talked a lot in his class, we got along really well etc.

Rate Essays:
Common App: 9/10 Loved it talked about being bisexual and biracial and never feeling like I fit (used buzzfeed quiz metaphor) and how organizing finally made me feel whole.

Woman Supplement: 9/10 Loved it also, talked about Queen Cristina of Sweden and how she was raised as a boy and was told to suppress her femininity etc.

Bold Questions: 8/10 Talked about specific classes and how I would use them to ask bold questions and gave examples of those (cultural appropriation, identity politics, art and minority rights, etc.)

Why Barnard: 9/10 Talked about how if barnard was a person we would be besties but that barnard is so diverse and full of various identities it could never be narrowed down to one type of person. Also wrote about how much I admired barnard’s history and commitment to social justice.

Background: From a large urban area and a state with MANY applicants. I go to an independent charter public school in an affluent area. I am biracial (south asian and white), queer, have 2 siblings, parents are married.

Any Comments?: I interviewed and I was super nervous and I didn’t think it went that great but I do think she could tell how obsessed with the school I was/am (well I did tell her that so yeah). I don’t think they consider demonstrated interest very much but I went to every summer webinar and followed all the instagrams so idk if that helped lol. Honestly what I think got me in was commenting on a barnard instagram post where they were talking about getting in the holiday spirit and I said that getting an acceptance letter would put me in the holiday spirit. For real though my essays and ecs definitely carried me because my grades are good but not spectacular.

Omg thank you queen and congrats!! I’m kinda nervy because my stats are definitely not top tier but I’m just gonna put as much as I can into my application and I will just have to wait and see the outcome!

Aww I really like your answer for Why Barnard! Sounds so cool!

HiI I was just wondering but does anyone know if we will get any physical mail from Barnard? Like a physical acceptance letter or something? I know the office of admissions is working from home so we probably wont but I really want something lol

Your SAT is def on the lower end for Barnard. I’d say as a general rule don’t submit anywhere where you’re below the 50th percentile. With the pandemic that’s especially true since schools are being more understanding. hope it helps!
(I’m not submitting scores anywhere since I live abroad and couldn’t test due to covid)

Not nationality wise, but 100% Chinese racially(is that a word)

Thank you so much that definitely helped!

I’m really hoping they do too

Hey so for all my RD applicants out there did the deadline change to January 4th for you all on Common/Coalition app too?

Yeah, changed for me as well. They’ll probably announce the change on Instagram a little later, unless it’s a glitch.

Besides the Internet notification is a snail mail letter sent as well? Thanks.

Acceptance letters are sent out.

Hi all! I am applying in the rd applicant pool. I was only able to take the sat once and got a 1460 (770 reading writing/ 690 math). Is that a score that would benefit me if I submitted it or should I hold off? It is my top choice and I’m doing my best to strengthen my application. Any insight would help!
