Barnard College Class of 2016 ED Thread

@noloserhere: Many students have gotten suspended and such. For example, my freshman or sophomore year, a group of girls toilet papered a guy’s houses and posted pictures on Facebook. They also wrote some inappropriate things in the boy’s driveway, I guess. Our school administrators often double as athletic coaches, etc. and thus are friends with the students they coach. This is technically against the rules, but several administrators do it anyway. Anyway, one of them turned the girls in and several of them got suspended because I guess they were wearing school sweatshirts in some of the photos. The grade that graduated last year also had problems with this. The administration pulled them in and interrogated them after finding “red cup” pictures on Facebook; several of them were consequently subject to drug and alcohol testing for the rest of the year. One kid got a month’s worth of detention after the administration found out about a party he had with marijuana that only seven kids attended; none of the pictures from this event were even posted on Facebook, but the school found out. As a result, the students at my school never take any pictures at parties and, if they do, we all make sure that they never make it on Facebook.

@medrix: Wait, they only sent some of the decisions out today? Why not all of them? Also, it says on the Express Mail website (yes, I just webt there) that things sent via Express Mail are often delivered in one day…I hope this is the case for Barnard decisions.

Also, the ACT average is 31? I thought it was 30…

@PeaceLoveTheatre

I can’t explain to you right now… How much I am in shock after reading that.
That’s not allowed. Seriously. You can’t suspend a kid because he used weed in his HOUSE. You can suspend/expel him if he brought it to school… but he is NOT within the school’s jurisdiction when on his own spare time. That is completely illegal unless he had signed a contract of liability with the school. Agh that makes me so mad… You guys should have fought/argued for it!! It would’nt’ve gone through!

A school is also not allowed to do alcohol/drug use testing unless it pertains to specific circumstances of in-school behavior. What a student does outside of school is not subject to scrutiny by the school unless he SHOULD have been in school during that time period. Ugh!! I hate it when administration thinks they can crack down and be hardasses. Some of this stuff is completely illegal. We may be teenagers, but we still have rights!! Some of this stuff is just plain unconstitutional.

Okay, its stupid to friend your teachers on facebook. Its even stupider to not alter your privacy settings when you do.

But above all… Toilet-papering? LOL… what? I don’t even see the appeal in that. Sounds intensely silly. More fun to smoke up.

Would love some answers to my priority mail questions!! :D

Is it possible that they sent all non-NYC decisions today so that they everyone’s will arrive on the same day?

Also, is it priority or express mail? Express is 1 day while priority is 2-3 days.

@noloserhere, thanks for chancing me! I’m sure you stand a great chance! And in response to your priority mail questions, I’m really not sure. I live in a Northern New Jersey suburb, so things are obviously different! But the timing really can’t be predicated, but I have heard that it usually comes a little later. (But I’m really not sure about that, sorry!) and I know so many kids in NYC! I’m sure our mutual friends cross over somewhere! (I love when that happens!!)

About the Facebook ordeal. I’m sure many of your facebook’s do have security settings set, so I wouldnt worry about it. Also, my guidance counselor was an admissions counselor and she said that they really don’t have time to check that stuff out.

@francesca782 it’s priority and yes, correction, it is 2-3 days!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to wish you guys luck from the Columbia boards! We will all basically be classmates next year which should be great.

Also, my girlfriend applied ED to Barnard and I am wondering how you can figure out whether you were accepted or not early by trying to log onto the welcome site or something like that? Any ideas?

@brandnew3773 Hi! Yes, nice to see a lion pop in here. Now are we are missing are tigers!!! Grrr! Anyway, I don’t think so. From reading around (incl the Barnard website) I’ve seen that there is no online notification, only snail mail (except for int’ls)

I’m so confused…so if I live near the city, will it arrive tomorrow, Thursday, or Friday?

[How will I be notified? | Barnard College](http://barnard.edu/headlines/how-will-i-be-notified)

@treehugga, depends if it was sent out today, or will be tomorrow! I know, the wait is killing me.

StillEnergy@ I know that there is no official online notification but what I had heard is that if you are able to use your Barnard ID and log into the student’s section than it means you were accepted. So I was wondering if any of you know anything more about it. I looked at the Barnard 2015 ED decisions and people were mentioning that they used that method to find out but I couldn’t figure out exactly what they were doing.

@ noloser, no- the girl in the office said that they sent out all the ones that were finished and they will send out the rest tomorrow (but she wasn’t 100% sure), probably implying the ones with the complete packages/information.

I also just noticed that the facebook page for the class of 2016 has officially been opened! which means we should be hearing anytime now, ladies!

Good luck again to all of you! <3

@ brandnew, have Columbia EDers received their acceptance letters yet?

@brandnew3773: As far as I know, the online login thing was a mistake on the part of the admissions office. I highly doubt they’d let it happen again.

@medrix: Yep, pretty sure they found out on Thursday.

Omg!!! I am so nervous. I live in ca when. Will i find out?
I am having so much anxiety.

@Medrix- Yeah we got our online acceptance last Thursday and I received my package on Saturday via but a lot of students still have received their package sent via mail. The packages we got were sent via UPS Priority Mail so yours might be sent the same way.

I’m pretty sure I’ve been annoying everyone this week…I am so nervous, live we’ve all said over a bajillion times. I’m losing sleep, and I’m just a mess:/ in all honesty, Im not really even expecting to get in. I’m just scared how I’m going to take it when I get the rejection letter…what is your guys’s idea of a crappy gpa/sat score? I think my essays are strong but my sats are below the average, and Im not even sure about my gpa

@noloserhere: Yeah, it’s very “Big Brother is watching”. It’s getting slightly better this year, though, since we have a new principal.

@newyorkmydreams: Where in California are you from?? (Like, Northern, Southern, Central, etc.)

@brandnew: Thank you!! Yeah, as everyone else has pretty much said, we find out Thursday-ish via mail. There is sadly no way to check online :frowning: Last year was just a glitch…

@medrix, thanks again for the information!

@jrm927, I agree with you!

Hey!!!
mammamia44
If it makes you feel better, I can’t focus on finals. I’m so worried about Barnard =/
I also feel like its a huge reach and I won’t get in. I’m just hoping I still get in!!!
Just be positive.

PeaceLoveTheatre
Hey! I’m from Northern CA. What about you? When will we find out?
I am freaking out like a maniac. I swear I have an anxiety disorder or something I can’t even type right. I just keep going onto the Barnard page on facebook and dreaming of being there. ahhh!

@mammamia44, and it really depends on the rest of your information. Meaning, if you had a 3.8 gpa in a very rigorous program, it would be better than a 4.0 in a regular one. And as for test scores, like many others have noted, they don’t tell admissions much about you as a person, so I wouldn’t worry about them as much!
