@Selenarahman They didn’t ask me to bring my parent’s income forms. You could make FAFSA corrections and it’s probably best to call them if they didn’t get back to your email. I also called and confirmed if they received all my documents. You seem to have good SAT and GPA, I am sure you’ll hear good news soon. Don’t worry.
@SuperBigMusicLover Thanks! And good luck with your program too!
@prospie2023 You’re welcome, and thanks!
@bookboozer Idk about whether or not you’ll get in, that’s always up to admissions, but if you do you probably won’t get substantial financial aid. It’s typically much harder for international students to get aid at all.
@bookboozer – my understanding is that if you do get admitted, Barnard will provide full need based aid – but they are need aware for international students. So they will consider your level of need in determining whether or not to admit you. They do admit a small number of international students with high levels of needs, but the vast majority of international admits are full pay students.
@bookboozer I’m in the same situation – international student who needs high levels of financial aid to attend – Barnard is one of my top choices, so I am very excited to hear back in a couple of weeks!
@calmom oh that is a little scary. Crossing my fingers for the best
@musemuse oh well. Let’s see what’s in store for me
Thanks for the replies. That gives me an idea of what I should be preparing for.
@didi12 Good luck! Let’s see what happens! Barnard is my top choice at the moment! I hope I at least get in!
If I go to a low-income high school does that help my chances of admission? I also failed 2 AP tests out of the 7 I took so far and I don’t know how much AP’s factor into the decision.
@hssenior191919 it depends on where you live. Low income in NYC will be looked at differently than a low income in North Dakota
i was going to do Mulan as well! I changed my mind though-- I was introduced to the author “bell hooks” and fell in love! great minds think alike though
@hssenior191919 @alexandra00 Barnard uses holistic admissions so they consider the entire candidate. However, that doesn’t mean they will overlook poor performance. Poor test scores can be partially compensated for by high grades but they will still look for evidence that the student can do well in an extremely competitive environment.
My advice is not to submit failing AP grades, or even AP grades below 4 as that could lead them to question how well you would do at Barnard. You won’t get credit for anything below a 4 in any case.
@hssenior191919 Did you report your scores?? I didn’t. I figured they would hurt more than help with what I have. (I’m also in a low income school. We’re minority majority & have huge ESL programs based in arabic and spanish. I’m hoping this will help me? But it’s also just kind of. My school. Yknow. Like, I didn’t ‘pick’ it for it’s stats; It’s just my area.)
I have the same situation as well. I go to a Title 1 hs where the AP enrollment is 20% and everyone receives free lunch due to the amount of low income kids. If you’ve taken the most rigorous course load despite your school situation and have exceeded the standard student profile at your high school, I think that it should work in your favor (imo, but what do do I know haha)
@musemuse I did because I wanted to show that I at least tried but idk. My ACT is 31 which is borderline but my GPA is a 4.7 so fingers crossed.
Anyone have an idea as to when exactly decisions came out? Last year they came out on 3/23 which was a Friday, but I’m wondering if anyone has anything concrete? I’m estimating they’ll come out on Friday 3/22.
@gettingthisbread Idk but I’m hoping they send out the email soon. If they send it out a week in advance, we should get one tomorrow, right? I hope? I just put down a deposit on a dorm at my safety because I don’t really think I’ll get in, but… idk… I really need to know.
Does anyone know what time is predicted for today/next week?
To get our mind off of decisions, what majors are you all applying to? I’m hoping to double major in anthropology and music!
@bbeft13 I’ve applied to the computer science major but I’m also interested in architecture! I want to be able to explore a little before I make a final decision. I might even do a double major!
Also, your combination is pretty interesting!!
Barnard class of 2020 here. As far as I remember and from all the years I’ve seen since, you will receive an email about 3 days (?) before I think saying the exact date you can expect a decision. I also remember decisions being released on a Thursday or a Friday and in late March so I would expect next week sometime.
as much as this won’t be easy, every relax and trust that you have done your best. If anyone has any questions about Barnard, please message me
I love talking to prospective students.
